POSITION SUMMARY
The Histotechnologist is responsible for the accessioning, processing, and managing of specimens to be sent out to external facilities.
This role requires meticulous attention to detail and organizational skills to ensure that specimens are properly handled, logged, and sent out efficiently.
The Histotechnologist will also be responsible for maintaining quality control and assisting with various administrative tasks related to specimen management.
This position requires a histotechnologist license and at least an Associate's Degree or equivalent experience. The individual in this role will demonstrate behavior consistent with the Core Values of Martin Luther King Jr.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Accession Specimens : Log in specimens in Pathnet, create requisitions, file them, and discard specified placentas.
- Check Pending Specimens : Print pending logs, ensure results are reported timely, and print / file pathology reports.
- Quality Control for Histology : Maintain temperature logs and equipment maintenance logs.
- Answer Calls and Assist with Issues : Handle inquiries and issues from various departments and personnel, including Neo, APMG, MR, Coroner, and Pathologists.
- File Slides : File slides returned from APMG.
- Fax Pathology Reports : Send pathology reports to physician's office.
- Order Supplies : Manage inventory and order necessary supplies.
- Maintain APMG Pathologist Consult Binder : Keep the binder updated.
- Assist with Bone Marrow Biopsies : Support the collection and processing of bone marrow biopsies.
- Manage CCR Cancer Registry : Update and maintain the cancer registry.
- Fax Abnormal Reports : Send abnormal reports as requested by Pathologists.
- Assist Care Management : Provide reports and slides for patients being transferred.
- Collect and Send Renal Biopsies : Manage the collection and sending of renal biopsies to Cedars.
- Send Patient Slides : Locate and send patient slides to other institutions as requested.
- Prepare Quarterly Reports : Compile and prepare quarterly reports.
- Handle Incident Reports : Report and document any errors with specimens.
- Manage Coroner Requests : Handle requests for blood or other specimens from the Coroner.
- Update SDS Manual : Ensure the Safety Data Sheets (SDS) manual is up-to-date.
- Assist with Frozen Sections : Support frozen section procedures as needed.
- Prepare for CAP Inspections : Assist with preparation for CAP (College of American Pathologists) inspections.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
A. Education
Associate's Degree or equivalent experience.
B. Qualifications / Experience
- Histotechnologist license.
- Previous experience in a laboratory setting is preferred.
C. Special Skills / Knowledge
- Proficient with laboratory information systems (LIS) and computer applications.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
