Summary :
Provides education related to all aspects of patient care and services to staff. Participates on house wide workgroups and committees to provide clinical expertise and input.
The senior clinical educator will be responsible for developing curriculum content for requested simulation activities as well assist in the integration of simulation in new hire onboarding, nurse residency, TIENs (Transition of Internationally Educated Nurses Successfully), Medical Students, Medical residents, and various other programs offered by NL EMMC.
They will be responsible for the scheduling of simulation lab, development of simulation personnel, day to day operations of simulation lab and outreach to community partners for simulation.
In addition, they will be responsible for coordinating outreach education with regional MO, academic organizations, EMS agencies and any other healthcare entities requesting simulation from NLH simulation center.

They will also work collaboratively with the Manager of Clinical Education and Manager of Medical Education. The position will report to Manager of Clinical Education with matrix reporting to Manager of Medical Education.
Responsibilities :

Identification of Learning Needs - INACSL Standard 1 : the needs assessment includes and examination of knowledge, skills, attitudes, and / or behaviors of individuals;
organizational initiatives; systems analysis; clinical practice guidelines; quality improvement programs and / or patient safety goals.
Construct measurable objectives - INACSL Standard 2. a. Develop broad and specific objectives to address identified needs and optimize the achievement of expected outcomes.
B. During the design phase, determine which objectives will or will not be available to the participants before the experience.
C. Use measurable objectives to drive the design, development and approach for the simulation-based experience. d. The facilitator assumes the responsibility for guiding the achievement of the full set of objectives throughout the simulation-based experience.
Structure the format of a simulation based on the purpose, theory, and modality for simulation-based experience. INACSL Standard 3.
A. Select the format of the simulation -based experience based on the needs assessment, resources, and broad objectives, taking into account the targeted participants.
B. Use the purpose of a simulation-based experience to design and develop either a formative and summative encounter. C.
Select the appropriate modality for the simulation-based experience. d. Structure all simulation-based experiences to include a starting point, structured participant activities and an end point.
Maintain a facilitative approach that is participant-centered and driven by the objectives, participant's knowledge or level of experience, and the expected outcomes.
INACSL Standard 6. a. Determine the facilitative approach during the design phase. B. Use a level of facilitator involvement inversely proportional to the participant's knowledge and experience.
c. Use a consistent facilitative approach among facilitators for each scenario, case, or simulation-based experience to achieve intervention fidelity.
Provide preparation materials and resources to promote participants ability to meet identified objectives and achieve expected outcomes of the simulation-based experience.
INACSL Standard 10. A. The facilitator is responsible for ensuring that preparatory activities address the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors that will be expected of the participants during the simulation-based experience.
B. Determine the necessary participant preparation. C. Design and develop preparation activities and resources to promote the best possible opportunity for participants to be successful.

b. Design the scenario to include : a situation and backstory to provide a realistic starting point, clinical progression and cues to provide a framework for the advancement of the clinical case.
C. Time frames to facilitate progression of the scenario. D. A script of a scenario or case that is developed for consistency and standardization.
E. Identification of critical actions / performance measures that are required to evaluate achievement of scenario objectives.
Begin simulation-based experiences with a prebriefing. INACSL 7. A. Conduct a pre-briefing to set the stage for the simulation-based experience by identifying participants expectations.
B. Conduct a prebriefing that is structured and planned. C. Incorporate into the prebriefing activities that help establishment an environment of integrity, trust and respect.
d. Incorporate into the prebriefing an orientation of the participants to the space, equipment, simulator, method of evaluation, roles, time allotment, objectives, patient situation and limitations.
E. Utilize a written or recorded prebriefing plan to standardize the process and content for each case. Follow simulation-based experiences with a debriefing and / or feedback session.
INACSL Standard 8. A. Identify the debriefing or feedback method for the simulation-based experience during the design phase.
b. Use a planned debriefing or feedback session to enrich learning and contribute to the consistency of the simulation-based experiences.
c. Seek formal training in debriefing techniques and utilize INACSL standards. Evidence Based Practice and Research integration.
Utilizes best available evidence to guide practice decisions. B. Creates a supportive environment for nursing research, scientific inquiry.
