Purpose Statement
As a Route Sales Supervisor, oversee Route Sales Representatives (including Reliefs and hourly Leads) to ensure compliance with Rich’s policies and Federal DOT guidelines, ensuring excellent customer service and effective merchandising in all supermarket accounts.
Your responsibilities will include : 80% training and developing the route sales team, which involves participating in frequent route rides with RSRs, running routes, and / or conducting market tours, meeting bakery and store management, and developing action plans to increase business.
Key Accountabilities and Outcomes
- Mentors and motivates associates, offering training for optimal performance, growth, and ensuring excellence in service to supermarket accounts.
- Own the recruitment efforts and hiring of associates for assigned region in coordination with the Talent Acquisition department.
- Communicates performance standards to associates, recognizing and rewarding individual and team accomplishments and counseling performance problems.
- Ensures Company standard and safety practices and procedures are followed.
- Ensures all DOT regulations are followed.
- Review, approve, and ensure policy compliance for all direct reports’ travel and expense activities and timekeeping / payroll data.
Operational Strategies and Customer Development :
- Maintains efficiency and cost-effectiveness in all aspects of DSD operations in the area.
- Develop and sustain positive relationships with chain operations personnel to expand distribution, carry out market-wide and targeted promotions, enhance customer relations, and resolve issues effectively.
- Ensure all products are sold to appropriate accounts and implement pricing strategies, including promotions, accurately.
Other :
- Fill in for RSR’s as needed to ensure uninterrupted, high-quality service to Carvel’s supermarket accounts.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by management to support Rich's business objectives.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required (concentration in business or other related field preferred)
- 3+ years’ experience in Direct Store Delivery or 5+ in Grocery or Retail.
- Demonstrate positive leadership; 3+ prior supervisory experience.
- Prefer valid CDL Class B license (Must obtain within 30 days of employment if not agreed otherwise) and clean driving record.
- Willing and able to travel overnight and out of town up to 75%
- Self-motivated with initiative and sound judgment.
- Punctual and reliable attendance.
- Professional with strong organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Team player.
- Proficient in computer, math, and analysis.
- 21 years or older.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
- Drive while adhering to traffic laws and DOT regulations.
- Maintain DOT medical certification.
- Extended periods of standing and sitting daily.
- Extended walking between truck-to-store merchandising trips.
- Regularly enter and exit Company vehicle daily (approximately 4 ft above ground to truck cab and / or cargo box); utilize proper Three-Points of Contact process when climbing ladders / stairs.
- Lifting not to exceed 55 pounds : required on a routine basis.
- Transport products at customer locations, navigating parking lots, sidewalks, ramps, etc., using carts or hand trucks, while being mindful of vehicle traffic and powered industrial trucks operated by others inside customer locations.
- Periodically parking along city streets.
- Frequent bending, twisting, turning, squatting, and kneeling while moving and merchandising product.
- Frequent exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
- Frequent handling of frozen product and exposure to refrigerated walk-in truck / storage temperatures below 0 degrees.
- Company provided uniform and safety shoes (certified safety toe and slip resistant) required.
- Pushing product carts (up to 450 pounds fully loaded).
- Able to maintain alertness and work long hours that typically start in the early AM.
