- Shift : Monday - Friday, 40hrs / week-Location : Onsite; Palo Alto, CA-Compensation : $22 to $26 per hourDuties and Responsibilities-Collect patient medical histories, including vision complaints, eye health history, medications, and general health information.
- Prepare patients for eye examinations by explaining procedures and answering questions.-Measure intraocular pressure using tonometry, assess corneal thickness, and measure pupil size and response.
- Operate diagnostic equipment such as optical coherence tomography (OCT), fundus photography, and corneal topography to capture images of the eye's internal and external structures.
- Document the ophthalmologist's findings during eye exams and treatments in patient records (sometimes acting as a medical scribe).
Education Qualification-A high school diploma or equivalent is typically the minimum requirement.-Completion of a formal Ophthalmic Technician training program (1-2 years), which can lead to a certificate or an associate degree in Ophthalmic Technology or a related field.
Licenses and Certifications-Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) : Entry-level certification.-Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) : Mid-level certification after further experience and training.
Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT) : Advanced-level certification.-Certifications are offered by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO).
