Position Title : Control Systems Hardware Designer

Major Duties :
Produces complete controls solutions and electrical design packages based on customer specifications and standardized design practices used at Client
Experience :
Three years experience in electrical control systems design, preferably in the industrial automation field. A working knowledge of ePlan and AutoCAD and the ability to keep abreast of leading-edge technology is essential.
Specific Responsibilities :
1. Work with mechanical designers during mechanical design process to design a control system that will enable the machine to perform its intended function safely and reliably.
2. Formulate and produce complete electrical design package, which includes detailed electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematics, cable routing diagrams, panel layouts, bills of materials and material requisitions, based on Client standard specifications and the customers' requirements.
3. Work with other members of the Controls Engineering Department and other groups to continuously improve methods of integrating controls technology, with the goals being enhanced safety, enhanced functionality and reduced cost.
4. Work with other members of the Controls Engineering Department and other groups to ensure that labour budgets and material budgets are adhered to or improved upon.
5. Specify all electrical and controls-related hardware and software and produce requisitions for material purchases.
6. Integrate third party equipment and electronic component entry into electrical design packages. Examples include serial and network communications, hardware handshaking, opto-isolation, electrical and ultrasonic welding applications, vision systems, motion control products, transducers and signal conditioners.
7. Verify that electrical design package is complete, accurate and safe based on sound design practices and accepted standards, and that the I / O drawings meet program requirements prior to issue to shop floor.
8. Work with customers, project managers, designers, toolmakers and electricians to solve problems in order to provide the customer with a complete, functional system.
9. Work with other members of the Controls Engineering Department and other groups to continuously improve methods of integrating controls technology.
10. Provide customers with training specific to their current project (i.e. electrical hardware, machine operation, programming principles, program functionality and program structure).
11. Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the Client Code of Business Conduct.
12. Work in compliance with divisional health, safety and environmental procedures.
13. Refrain from removing or altering safety devices or guarding unless hazardous energies are controlled through lockout-tagout methods.
14. Report any unsafe conditions or unsafe acts.
15. Report defect in any equipment or protective device.
16. Ensure that the required protective equipment is used for the assigned tasks.
17. Attend all required health, safety and environmental training.
18. Report any accidents / incidents to supervisor.
19. Assist in investigating accidents / incidents.
20. Refrain from engaging in any prank, contest, feat of strength, unnecessary running or rough and boisterous conduct.
Education :
A post-secondary technology diploma or engineering degree or equivalent, specializing in electronics, electrical or controls technology.
