Larkin University is a private, non-profit educational institution comprised of the College of Biomedical Sciences, the College of Pharmacy and the PA Program.

Larkin University focuses on master’s and doctoral level programs in health professions to empower diverse graduates who reflect the demographics of the healthcare needs of the communities we serve.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Fellowship in Academic Pharmacy at the Larkin University College of Pharmacy (LUCOP) is a 24-month postgraduate training opportunity for practicing pharmacists to obtain advanced practice, teaching, and research experience.

The Fellow will have the opportunity to complete a Masters in Ethical Leadership (higher education) with St Thomas University (online).

The purpose of the program is to prepare pharmacists for a career in pharmacy education through training in teaching, curriculum development, college service, mentoring, scholarship, and practice.

The Fellow will be exposed to a variety of teaching responsibilities, such as lecturing, facilitating small group-based learning, course coordination, student precepting, and student assessment.

In addition to extensive academic experience, the Fellow will also participate in direct-patient care practice. The two years will consist of approximately 80% teaching- and academic-related duties and 20% clinical practice.

Highlights of the training program include participating for the entire two years on a college committee, extensive teaching experience, and flexible clinical practice at an outpatient clinic.

The optional master’s degree program in Ethical Leadership in Higher Education will be provided at a reduced tuition. At the end of the training program, the academic fellows will be prepared for career growth in academia.

The 2024-26 fellowship will run from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2026.

Program Objectives

  • Develop teaching skills through immersion in classroom, experiential, and interprofessional education, and curricular development.
  • Develop research / scholarship skills through active engagement in research.
  • Develop leadership skills through formal training and engagement in school / departmental committees and professional organizations.
  • Advance practice skills through practice in an area of interest.

Select Fellowship ActivitiesTeaching and College Service

  • Design, implement, facilitate, and deliver innovative educational content within the Doctor of Pharmacy program.
  • Develop skills in educational training through a variety of classroom experiences (i.e. classroom, facilitating skills labs, and small group active-learning environments).
  • Participate in a longitudinal specialty area of academia (i.e. Assessment, Curriculum, Admissions, Faculty Affairs, etc.).
  • Develop skills necessary for successful course coordination and engage in mentorship activities through student organizations and community service.
  • Exhibit professionalism through participation in pharmacy and interprofessional organizations and serving as a student organization mentor.

Scholarship

  • Write a proposal for a research project related to the scholarship of teaching, learning, and / or education that can be implemented in a faculty position.
  • Represent the college at selected professional meetings.
  • Submission of a grant proposal will be taught, and the Fellow encouraged to write a draft proposal that could subsequently be updated and submitted during their first faculty appointment.

Clinical Practice

Refine practice skills by providing patient-centered care in a specialty of the fellow’s choice (ambulatory care, internal medicine, cardiology, etc.).

Eligibility Requirements

  • Pharm.D. degree or other that enables the Fellow to practice.
  • Pharmacy licensure within the State of Florida.
  • Curriculum vitae and letter of intent.
  • Three letters of reference.
  • College of Pharmacy transcript.
