FMS- Sr. Systems Engineer

Job Description

TDI Technologies, Inc. (TDI) is seeking candidates for a Systems Engineer position. This position will support the design and implementation of US Navy shipboard networks for Foreign Military Sales (FMS) applications.

This position will involve collaboration with the Naval Sea Systems Command, TDI’s primary customer for this contract, other contractors such as the original equipment manufacturers and ship design and integrators, and test and certification personnel in the field.

The candidate will employ requirements and design skills, review similar existing systems and applications, and propose improvements to adapt shipboard network designs, processes, and methods to new applications.

This position will require design, documentation, integration and test experience. The candidate must be comfortable working with electrical, computer, and mechanical systems.

Job Requirements

Principal Duties / Responsibilities :

1. Lead engineering, naval architecture, integration, and ship system support teams for shipboard networks on domestic and foreign naval vessels.

2. Simulate machinery in software for integration and testing activities and support feasibility studies for new system design

3. Lead efforts to resolve technical issues, identifying root cause of problems as found in shipboard testing, and recommend / implement solutions

4. Support design milestones, builder’s trials, pierside testing and underway activities

5. Support management of funding, delivery order follow-on activity and technical task execution

6. Initiate, investigate and solve technical issues with minimal technical oversight

7. Plan and manage validation and verification (V&V) of machinery control system releases for surface combatants

8. Create and maintain test plans and schedules

9. Record and track test results on a daily basis with a variety of stakeholders : project managers, software engineers, interfacing groups, program managers, etc.

10. Ensure all documentation, checklists, and critical design elements are produced, reviewed, and approved in accordance with internal and customer systems engineering process frameworks

11. Identify opportunities for test plans and methods to be improved to ensure project testing is safe, timely, and effective

12. Oversee live operations of rotating machinery as part of test operations

13. Lead weekly reviews of test results, bug corrections, and other planning activities

14. Troubleshoot control systems, utilizing documentation, electrical and computer tools, and schematics

Education and Experience Requirements :

1. Bachelor of Science Degree in an engineering discipline

2. 7 or more years of experience as an engineer working on mechanical / electrical system design, repair, installation, modification, operation, maintenance and testing of shipboard equipment or systems

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS :

1. Successful applicants must either have an active government security clearance or the ability to receive approval upon position acceptance.

2. Must have a valid US passport or the ability to obtain one upon position acceptance.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

Essential Skills :

1. Familiarity with TCP / IP network protocols and distributed control systems

2. Basic electrical troubleshooting skills, including the ability to use an electrical multimeter and oscilloscope

3. Knowledge of basic electrical principles to include understanding current, voltage, power, resistance, continuity, and grounding

4. Ability to generate and edit electrical schematics

5. Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office applications

6. Problem solving abilities

7. Strong written and verbal communication skills

8. Shipboard or industrial experience with machinery control system installation, operational testing, troubleshooting, and repair is preferred

9. Experience troubleshooting machinery control systems is preferred

10. Ability to use electrical and software based analysis tools including network traffic analyzers (such as Wireshark, HyperTerminal, Putty, or similar) is preferred
