Team or Function Overview The Asphalt Procurement Team is responsible for souring all raw materials related to asphalt in the production of GAF roofing products.
The team works collaboratively to manage pertinent supplier relationships, negotiate and maintain supplier agreements, and set the strategic vision for the Procurement of asphalt.
Summary The Buyer will be an integral part of the Asphalt Procurement team primarily managing vendor relationships and negotiating for third party asphalt terminals and storage.
The Buyer will also be responsible for scheduling raw material supply needs and working cross functionally to keep all parties informed with regards to raw material supply.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to :
- Develop, deliver, and maintain timely requested Analytic tools / reports related to asphalt., including but not limited to Monthly Cost Update, Volume Forecast by plants and suppliers, Ad-hoc data analysis, etc. etc. (15-20%)
- Actively manage and optimize asphalt terminal inventory to ensure right inventory at right time in close consultation with Category Managers and plants (10-15%)
- Lead and / or assist in terminal supplier negotiation, help drive execution and optimization of Supply and / or Terminaling Agreements to enhance supply chain resilience, mitigate risk, and help attain the lowest total system cost in accordance with company policies and procedures. (10-15%)
- Manage contractual commitments and supplier assessments, ensuring all purchases or services are consistent with quality and delivery requirements. (15-20%)
- Assess suppliers and potential suppliers. Oversee tracking of supplier metrics, and communicate performance. Manage vendor relationships and build effective partnerships. (10-15%)
- Coordinate with internal customers to implement supply of product or service, including recommended supplier changes. (10-15%)
- Develop and implement sourcing strategies that are aligned with GAF business objectives. (5-10%)
- Ad-hoc. (5-10%)
- Up to 15% Travel as needed
Physical Demands
Ability to conduct day to day business communications including phone calls, emails, text messages, etc.
Under This Roof, We Require
- Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM or business field
- 2 or more years of experience in a business role
- Solid understanding of standard procurement and supply chain concepts, practices, and procedures, including strong negotiation skills and contract experience
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data sets
- Strategic and systems thinking
- Excellent communication and computer skills including proficiency with Google Sheets / Excel

- Experience with direct (raw material) procurement, chemical, or roofing operations
- Experience with data modeling and advanced knowledge of Google Sheets / Excel
- Technical experience within roofing plant
- Knowledge of Google Suites
- Experience in the use of ERP systems (Oracle / PeopleSoft, SAP, or equivalent)
- Familiarity with financial management and analysis
