The Chemistry Department at Hamilton College invites applications for a full-time Instrumentation Specialist beginning July 1, 2024.
We seek highly-qualified candidates who have extensive hands-on experience with a wide-range of instrumentation (MS, LC / GC / HPLC, NMR, UV-VIS, IR, fluorescence, DSC / TGA, AA, PXRD, and other common laboratory equipment) to support instructional and research activities in a small college setting.
Responsibilities include regular maintenance and calibration, operation and fault troubleshooting, software / hardware updating, maintaining computer networks, and working with vendors.
The successful candidate will also demonstrate interest and proficiency in communicating instrument protocols and in training users along with using their expertise to suggest sample collection techniques, analytical experimental designs, method development strategies, and data interpretation methods.
Personnel management may be asked of the position. Primary responsibilities will be in the Chemistry Department, but some support for geosciences, biology, and physics is also possible.
The position might offer opportunities for adjunct teaching as needed by the department.
Candidates should have PhD in chemistry, engineering, or related field or MS / BS in chemistry with demonstrated experience and knowledge.
They should possess excellent interpersonal and writing skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines, set schedules and work independently on short and long-term goals.
The expected 12-month base salary range for this position is $75,000 to $95,000.
