As a Staff Engineer, Backend at Via, youll drive the development & maintenance of our backend systems, ensuring they are robust, scalable, & efficient.

You will be joining Via at a time of rapid growth, impacting hundreds of thousands of riders weekly, many of whom represent special needs populations, students, caregivers, & more.

As a Staff Engineer, youll play a critical role in architecting, developing, implementing, maintaining & troubleshooting in a cutting-edge environment.

What You'll Do :

• Lead high-caliber backend engineering teams who design & implement highly scalable, reliable, & performant backend systems & APIs that power Vias solutions
• Drive the technical direction & roadmap for backend development, working closely with cross-functional teams to prioritize initiatives & deliver on business objectives
• Lead by example, contributing hands-on to coding, debugging, & troubleshooting complex technical issues, & driving initiatives to improve development efficiency & productivity
• Act as a subject matter expert in backend engineering, providing guidance & thought leadership to teams within our R&D center
• Define & implement coding standards, development processes, & quality assurance practices to ensure the delivery of clean, maintainable code
• Work with our world-class product & operations teams to convert ideas into a prioritized backlog, & then turn those ideas into reality.

Who You Are :

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent work experience
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in backend software, with a proven track record of designing & building scalable, high-performance systems
• Minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience in Python, Java, C++, or C#
• Proven record of developing & scaling products that are highly available, distributed, & large scale
• Strong understanding of CI / CD concepts & hands-on experience with related tools such as Jenkins, GitLab, or Github actions
• Strong knowledge of database technologies (SQL / MySQL) in low level performance optimizations, including profiling & memory analysis
• Expertise with cloud platforms : AWS, Serverless, Kubernetes
• Solid understanding of software engineering principles, design patterns, & best practices for building maintainable & testable code.
• A strong leader with the ability to inspire, motivate, & mentor team members to achieve their full potential
• Excellent communication & collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
• Ability to drive work forward independently in a cross-functional, geographically distributed team environment

Compensation & Benefits :

• Final salary will be determined by the candidates experience, knowledge, & skills. Salary reflected does not include equity or variable pay, where applicable
• Salary Range : $200,000 - $275,000 per year
