Job Summary
The art therapist is responsible for providing high quality patient care, displaying skills in assessment, treatment planning, Art therapy groups, activity groups and individual treatment.
Providing timely and complete clinical documentation. Additionally, he / she is responsible for functioning well as a member of the multidisciplinary team.
Essential Functions
- Demonstrates an ability to assess the functioning level of each patient
- Participates in the interdisciplinary treatment team meetings.
- Reports significant findings to the treatment team
- Contributes to the development of an individualized treatment plan for each patient.
- Demonstrates an awareness of treatment goals and objectives of each patient
- Demonstrates an ability to conduct activities in accordance with the patients' diagnosis and needs
- Demonstrates an ability to conduct activity groups as assigned
- Displays good theoretical knowledge of group principles and techniques
- Completes progress notes according to department standards
- Documents progress notes that reflect the patients' progress towards their short- term goals
- Documents legible progress notes in the electronic health record
- Selects the appropriate art supplies for the patient population and setting.
- Demonstrates knowledge of warning signs of aggressive behavior as outlined in Handle with Care Training.
- Demonstrates an ability to use skills taught in Handle with Care Training
- Demonstrates knowledge of work practice and emergency procedures.
- Assumes responsibility for ongoing training and development by attending in-service programs, and staff meetings
- Demonstrates an ability to provide education and support to patients and their families.

Minimum Education / Certifications
M.S. Art Therapy or related field
Licensure : Certification in New Jersey required.
Minimum Work Experience
One to five years' experience in mental health preferred
Working Conditions
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients and equipment. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 lbs.
Requires working under stressful conditions and flexible hours. Involves some discretion, independent action, and judgment to decide what to do
