Job Description :
The Director is responsible for developing and leading F&M's robust Fellowships Advising Program. This includes, without limitation, advising and preparing students and graduates to compete for nationally and internationally competitive fellowship opportunities by guiding them throughout the exploration, discernment, application, nomination, interview, and decision processes while facilitating programmatic, relational and marketing initiatives that generate ongoing awareness about fellowships F&M students and graduates could pursue and the Director's services.
Essential Functions :
Mentoring / Advising : Advise students and graduates about the range of nationally and internationally competitive fellowships they could pursue, along with how to develop competencies and access curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular experiences that could help them become competitive candidates for those fellowships;
Guide students and graduates through the fellowship application process, including, without limitation, feedback on the content and substance of scholarship application biographical forms and essays, and interview preparation and performance.
- Communications, Marketing and Writing : Develop and oversee strategic outreach, collaborative programs and outreach campaigns which generate awareness among students about the range of fellowships students can pursue along with the nature and scope of the Director's services.
- Regularly assess the efficacy and impact of said marketing and awareness initiatives and adjust the same as necessary;Write and / or procure institutional endorsement letters while mentoring and providing feedback to letter of recommendation writers as needed;
Manage the Fellowship website(s) and social media outlets to aggregate and disseminate information about the scope and result of fellowships students and graduates have secured and may pursue.
- Partnerships and Committee Oversight : Cultivate relationships with faculty and staff to ensure cross-campus participation in identifying and mentoring candidates, serving on selection committees, and providing letters of support;
- Develop and maintain relationships with external funding agencies and foundations, ensuring appropriate campus preparation and selection procedures;
Identify faculty for the Committee on Post-Graduate Fellowship Committee. Train and lead said Committee whose work includes, among other tasks, vetting drafts of statements, participating in mock interviews, and other forms of supportPartner with Franklin & Marshall's Office of Admission and College Advancement to maintain and enhance the strong reputation for Franklin & Marshall's Fellowships Program among prospective students and graduates looking to use and support the program.
Partner with the Office of Student and Postgraduate Development to develop synergies with ongoing initiatives to support student development and post-graduate success.
Events & Programs : Design and deliver programs and resources which support the Director's advising efforts, including on-campus workshops and online, on-demand resources;
Represent the College at meetings of regional and national conferences, professional associations such as the National Association for Fellowship Advisors, peer institutions, and on international site visits as applicable, remaining up-to-date on best practices in the field of Fellowships Advising.
Data and Process Oversight : Maintain records of advisement and programmatic engagement while also collecting and maintaining data pertaining to the outcomes of student and graduate applications for fellowships.
Requirements :
Minimum Qualifications :
- Master's Degree. A graduate degree in international education, higher education administration, student affairs, an academic field, or another relevant field plus experience with academic, career, mentoring, and / or study abroad advising in a college / university setting.
- 1-3 years of experience with the following : Experience with academic, career, and / or study abroad advising in a college / university setting;
Experience teaching writing or editing personal statements, scholarship essays and.or applications to graduate and professional programs.
Experience in creating partnerships with and working creatively and effectively with broad constituencies.
- Ability to recognize strengths and clarify the interests and values of students while assisting them in making informed decisions about their life after college.
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills.
- Intermediate level of proficiency with Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Gmail, Slides, Drive).
- Ability and willingness to provide excellent service and to work in a collegial manner with students, faculty and staff, and other constituencies is essential.
- This position requires driving for college business, the successful candidate must possess a U.S. or Canadian driver's license which has been valid for at least two years, have a driving record that is free from excessive motor vehicle violations within the last three years, and have had no convictions in the last 24 months for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Preferred Qualifications :
- Doctoral degree.
- 4-7 years of experience in the following : Experience with academic, career, and / or study abroad advising in a college / university setting.
Experience teaching writing or editing personal statements, scholarship essays and.or applications to graduate and professional programs.
Experience in creating partnerships with and working creatively and effectively with broad constituencies.
- Knowledge of national and international scholarship / fellowship competitions and ability to match students and graduates to appropriate programs based on their aspirations, value and experience.
- Excellent strategic planning, leadership and organizational skills.
- Team-orientation with an interest in collaborating with other members of the Franklin & Marshall community in preparing students and graduates for success beyond college.
