SUMMARY
The Director of Engineering and Facilities ("Director de Ingeniería y Instalaciones") develops, implements, and manages programs that ensure the proper operation and maintenance of all physical structures, equipment, vehicles, and grounds of an 8 ½-acre bayside resort hotel in compliance with Company standards and local, state and national regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Ensures the proper overall operation of the Catamaran Resort Hotel & Spa's physical plant, including the operation and maintenance of a state-of-the-art luxury spa.
- Attracts, retains and motivates Engineering Department staff.
- Hires, trains, develops, empowers, coaches and counsels employees.
- Conducts performance appraisals, salary reviews, resolves problems, facilitate open communication, and hanldes disciplinary actions and termination as appropriate.
- Develops, recommends, implements and manages the department's budget expenditure plan.
- Forecasts and sets objectives to maintain a first-class resort property that meets upper management’s expectations.
- Develops, implements and oversees all life and safety systems to meet OSHA standards.
- Ensures all equipment is maintained, conducts inspections and practice drills, and ensures compliance with all codes and regulations.
- Ensures the Engineering team is well trained, has the proper equipment to perform their tasks safely, and maintain accurate records to ensure a safe environment that protects assets, guests, and employees.
- Develops, implements and manages energy conservation programs to minimize expenses.
- Coordinates renovation bidding, define project costs and scope, and oversee general contractors and subcontractors to ensure quality work is performed cost-effectively.
- Establishes and maintains contracts with outside maintenance vendors to include chemical services, trash collection services, fire protection services, and pest control services.
- Provides advice and consultation to other District personnel on facilities engineering matters, including compliance with federal / state laws and regulations
- Coordinates facilities engineering project activities with other District departments and divisions.
- Recommends work equipment and maintenance standards, procedures and performance criteria for ongoing planned activities
- Defines training needs for maintenance and operations personnel, such as trade skills enhancement, related to maintenance standards and procedures.
- Ensures the proper operation and maintenance of guest swimming pools and hydrotherapy pools, ensuring compliance with all regulatory agencies.
- Oversees contract compliance and labor from external vendors for outsourced maintenance, including HVAC repairs and replacements, elevator repairs, construction projects, etc.
- Provides assistance during emergencies.
- Performs additional duties and responsibilities as directed by the leadership team.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
- Two-year associates degree, trade school degree, professional certification or any equivalent.
- At least 5 years of experience as Chief or Director of Engineering, preferably in a hotel, or similar business entity.
- A combination of experience, education, and / or training may be substituted for either requirement.
- Experience running shifts, scheduling, performance management, problem-solving, guest servicing and running day-to-day operations.
- Experience in dealing with the public is preferred, such as retail cashier, food industry service, guest service with public contacts, etc.
- Availability to work on weekends and holidays is required.
- Ability to maintain a friendly, team-oriented, positive attitude and a professional appearance at all times.
- Ability to stand, kneel, squat for prolonged periods of time, up to and including, the entire shift and lift up to 50 lbs.
- The following position will be filled in accordance with the process set forth in California Labor Code Section and San Diego Municipal Code et. Seq.
The pay scale posted is the salary or hourly wage range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for the position during the first year of employment.
The posted range does NOT include potential additional types of compensation, such as gratuities, service charges, commissions, or bonuses.
Actual compensation offered may fluctuate based on qualifications and / or experience.
