Therapy Assistant Clinical Specialist
JOB SUMMARY
- Provides therapy services, in a manner described in the State of Maryland Practice Act, with children from birth to 21 years of age and other patients as assigned, to restore function and to optimize participation following disease or injury.
- Documents treatment sessions thoroughly and in a timely way in the patient’s electronic health record.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIOING OF POSITION
- Demonstrates skills and knowledge necessary to assure treatment or care that is appropriate to the development / chronological age of the patients served.
- Assists patients with rehabilitation exercise as directed by licensed physical therapist.
- Engage in professional development and advancement activities around a defined specialty area. Provides mentorship and training for clinical staff around a defined clinical specialty area
- Identifies, resolves and / or escalates routine clinical and operational issues to departmental leadership for resolution in order to assure high quality care.
- Thorough understanding of the utility and required timelines associated with the electronic health record system.
- Completes all requirements in a timely way
POSITION REQUIREMENS Educational Requirements
- Graduate of an approved professional school for therapy / therapist assistant. Licensure, Certification and Registration
- Licensed by the State of Maryland to practice under the direction of a licensed therapist.
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification Work Experience Two years’ experience required, one in pediatric preferred Participation in departmental, hospital-wide or Core Team preferred Project development in area of Clinical Specialty required Demonstrates exemplary customer service Excellent written and oral communication skills Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Oral / Written Skills Sensitivity / Tact in dealing with customers Ability to lift, position, or move patients to and from patient care equipment while maintaining patient comfort and safety Ability to self-lift 50 pounds.
Computer system / software proficiency Manual dexterity and mobility Ability to act quickly and decisively during emergency situations Treatment skills specific to patient populations Other Requirements Specific to Assigned Area REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS Directly reports to Senior Therapist Reports to Inpatient, Outpatient, Feeding Manager
INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS Directly interfaces daily with patients, visitors, other health care team members, and other health care staff
TOOLS / EQUIPMENT USED Operates adaptive equipment, physical agents, specialty beds, and equipment within the Rehabilitation department
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT / WORKING CONDITIONS Occasional stress during emergency situations or multiple demands and / or telephone calls.
Regular or continuous risk of exposure to body fluids, infectious waste or blood borne diseases requiring the use of personal protective equipment and adherence to established protocol.
