Position Summary

Assistant Life Support Technicians assist the LSTs and LSSs as required. When qualified solely as ALSTs they are, effectively, trainee LSTs.

They must be experienced with and fully familiar with the diving system they are operating.

Duties & Responsibilities

Functions

ESSENTIAL

  • They should maintain a logbook in which they record details of their employment.
  • Ensuring that he understands and complies with the duties detailed in IMCA D 013.
  • Assisting and supporting the LSS and the LST as and when required, in a safe and efficient manner, and under the guidance of the LSS or LST.
  • Be familiar with all relevant parts of the Dive System and all the system-specific operating procedures. Where appropriate, the LST or LSS will provide guidance and training in the information and techniques to be followed.
  • Ensuring that all equipment is operated safely and in accordance with the Oceaneering Dive System Manuals; paying attention to the safe operation of equipment, such as medical and equipment locks and Sanitation Systems.
  • Supporting the LST in ensuring that all plant and equipment is suitable, properly maintained, and, where appropriate, fully certified and in compliance with the relevant Class Authority, IMCA, IMO and other relevant standards, and that all communications systems are suitable and fully working.
  • Being fully familiar with all chamber blow-down preparation and operation procedures and activities, and with all decompression procedures and activities.
  • Ensuring that all Diver bedding, clothing and bell run equipment is clean and dry before being placed in the chambers.
  • Having suitable knowledge of personal and food hygiene, including washing hands before handling any food or food containers;

maintaining standard cleanliness in the galley, and ensuring that all food is prepared and transported in suitable and hygienic containers, including any snacks for the bell.

  • Maintaining good communications with the chamber occupants and seeing that the Divers' needs are met and treated respectfully.
  • Being familiar with all Oceaneering Diving Operations documents, Diving Manual and Emergency and Contingency Manual. Where appropriate, the LST or LSS will provide guidance and training in the information and techniques to be followed.
  • Being thoroughly familiar with all the diving-related, vessel-specific Emergency and Contingency procedures, roles, responsibilities and actions;

ensuring that regular drills and exercises are carried out and recorded in the relevant documents. Where appropriate, the LST or LSS will provide guidance and training in the information and techniques to be followed.

  • Assisting that the chamber hygiene requirements are met and complied with.
  • Assisting in the carrying out of drills and exercises in support of the LST. Where appropriate, the
  • LST or LSS will provide guidance and training in the information and techniques to be followed.
  • Maintaining a suitable LST log book and ensuring it is signed by the LSS. Complete appropriate company documentation
  • Deliver effective handovers
  • Implement company management of change procedures
  • Provide ongoing competence assessment of personnel under supervision
  • Promote a culture supportive of HSE matters, demonstrating visible and active HSE leadership
  • Communicate effectively with dive team, marine personnel and deck crew
  • Encourage personnel to raise issues or concerns calmly and to deal with matters promptly and appropriately
  • Support individual and team functions in ways which promote team working, trust and co- operation with colleagues and supervisors

Additional Duties

  • Maintaining the Company quality assurance and control philosophy on all operation and diving activities in accordance with the relevant standards and specifications, as required by the Client's representative(s) and procedural documentation.
  • Assist the LSS and LST is by overseeing the hygiene within the Saturation System and must ensure Diving Health and Hygiene Procedures are followed and documented.
  • Must be registered with the competency assessment scheme and be subject to appropriate assessments and be fully conversant with all relevant emergency procedures and equipment, including the manning procedures for the SPHL.

Safety

Ensure that the Safety policies and procedures are understood and adhered to so far as is reasonably practicable in order to ensure a safe working environment.

Other

Carry out work in accordance with the Company Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality Systems.

Perform the assigned tasks with due diligence regarding the Integrated Management Systems on the Company.

Eliminate waste of whatever form, to suggest the use of more environmentally friendly substances and practices and contribute to the continuous improvement of the environment.

Qualifications

REQUIRED

  • Completed diver training to IMCA-recognised ALST qualification
  • Passed offshore medical suitable for geographical area of work
  • Passed offshore survival course suitable for geographical area of work
  • Has received training in aspects of leadership
  • Completed employer company familiarisation

Working Conditions

This position is considered OFFSHORE WORK which is characterized as follows.

  • Requires working outdoors, exposed to all weather conditions.
  • Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable.
  • Includes exposure to contaminants.
  • Requires working in very hot (above 90 F degrees) or very cold (below 32 F degrees) temperatures.
  • Requires working in cramped work spaces and getting into awkward positions.
  • Requires working in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions.
