Job Summary
Working in the Recreation Division of the Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Department, this safety sensitive position performs a variety of duties required to successfully teach classes for youth and enrichment programs.
Examples of Essential Duties
SUPERVISION RECEIVED :
Works under the general supervision of the Recreation Coordinator 2 Youth Enrichment.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED :
None.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Teaches Kids’ Zone and Enrichment Programs with minimal supervision; monitors participants and adjusts class projects based on the general ability of the class.
Assists in the preparation of lesson plans for age-appropriate activities.
Assists with supply inventory; ensures all necessary program supplies are available.
Ensures proper room set-up and take-down for each class.
Builds appropriate rapport with children, parents, and contacts to set a positive tone. Maintains a positive, professional approach to all customers, staff, and / or other interested parties and effectively resolves issues with dissatisfied customers, as directed.
Provides information, handles complaints, as directed, and keeps supervisor apprised of any situations, positive or negative, that would affect the program, department, or Town of Parker.
Asks appropriate questions to gather all pertinent information before directing or advising on issues.
Implements and follows current health, safety and sanitation guidelines required by Department / Division. Supports the Town of Parker’s Recreation Division philosophies, and observes all applicable policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
Must be 18 years of age or older.
High School Diploma or GED.
One (1) or more years of experience in teaching or caring for children and experience in and coordinating events and activities.
Possession of or the ability to obtain a CPR and First Aid certification within thirty (30) days of hire.
An equivalent combination of education and experience to provide the following knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :
Knowledge of the philosophies, principles, and practices of positive interaction with children, parents, and staff members.
Ability to demonstrate use of these techniques in all interactions.
Skill in verbal and written communication.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Town officials, community organizations and businesses, the public and other Town employees.
Ability to provide proper instruction using both verbal description and physical demonstration.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, conflicting priorities, and stressful situations.
Ability and willingness to work flexible hours and weekends when required.
Ability to effectively manage a classroom setting.
