The Production Assistant is responsible for various television production duties required for live and recorded broadcasts.
The production crew works together running cameras, audio, graphics, teleprompter, and switcher to produce a professional and quality on-air product under the leadership of a director.
The department must work closely with news, sports, weather, and lifestyle talent and producers to ensure smooth preparation and execution of a clean broadcast.
- Operates studio and remote cameras for live and recorded programs
- Composes and frames camera shots, applying the technical aspects of light, lenses, and camera settings to achieve the effects sought by directors
- Adjusts positions and controls of cameras to change focus, exposure, and lighting as requested by the director
- Confers with directors, producers, talent and other crew members to discuss sequences, desired effects, camera movements, and lighting requirements
- Prepare cameras, set pieces, microphones, and related equipment prior to broadcast
- Tests, cleans, and maintains studio and control room equipment
- Operates audio board for live and recorded programs
- Produces graphics for live and recorded programs
- Operates graphics and video playback systems for live and recorded programs
- Edits video and preforms other post-production tasks for promos and recorded programs
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements & Skills :
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Proficiency with computers, telephones, cameras, and other studio / control room equipment
- Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Ability to lift and move set pieces and equipment up to 40 lbs
- Ability to communicate effectively over headsets for extended periods
