Position : Middle School Assistant Principal
Effective 2024-2025 School Year
Schedule : 42 Weeks
Position Purpose :
- To assist the Principal in providing leadership and supervision in administering the educational and extra-curricular programs of a middle school in order to promote the educational development and achievement of students in accordance with Board of Education policies, administrative procedures, rules and regulations, and applicable law.
- To provide leadership in program development and improvement, as well as in professional staff development.
- To serve as Principal in the absence of the Principal.
Essential Functions :
- Supervises and evaluates teaching staff and other building employees in accordance with the school district’s evaluation plan, and makes recommendations regarding goals, areas needing improvement and continued employment.
- Facilitate teacher professional development by modeling effective teaching in the classroom and working directly with teachers.
- Assists the Principal in leading and developing the school improvement plan and other annual reports.
- Assists the Principal in meeting goals and objectives as set by the Superintendent.
- Monitors student placements in appropriate programs including ELL Program, 31a, Special Education, etc. Prepares class schedules, master schedules, and extracurricular activities.
- Coordinates the implementation of the M-STEP and other standardized tests and uses assessment data to improve teacher and student performance.
- Assists in the recruitment and selection of employees, the proper maintenance of employee personnel files, the administration of collective bargaining agreements, corrective action, and other human resource issues.
- Assists the Principal in the implementation of the school-wide discipline plan.
- Assists the Principal in the most effective use of the human, technical, and fiscal resources allocated to the school.
- Assists the Principal in coordinating and facilitating school meetings, including Student Study Team, Open House, Conferences, parent group meetings, staff meetings, and after school events and activities.
- Attend student athletic, fine arts performances and other extra-curricular activities.
- Regular, reliable and punctual attendance
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Additional Duties : Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Superintendent and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment : Use standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copier and fax machines, and telephone.
Travel Requirements : Travel to school district buildings, student extra-curricular activities and professional meetings as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles.
- Knowledge of High School curriculum and concepts.
- Knowledge of best practices in administration, program evaluation and staff supervision.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans. Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education.
- Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to attend and supervise extra-curricular evening events multiple nights per week.
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff, students and parents.
- Ability to organize multiple tasks and conflicting time constraints. Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to leadership, performance and professional growth
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
- Ability to express ideas clearly in oral and written communications.
- Ability to work in an economically, culturally and racially diverse environment.
Qualifications :
- Master’s Degree in administration, supervision or education.
- 5 years successful teaching (secondary preference).
- Leadership experience preferred.
- Pursuant to and District expectations, the individual in this position must either hold a valid Michigan school administrator’s certificate or not later than 6 months after he or she begins employment as a school administrator enroll in a program leading to certification as a school administrator and must complete the program within 3 years.

- Mental Functions : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to compare, analyze, communicate both orally and in writing, copy, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, compile and negotiate.
