Responsibilities This position requires operating in Responsible Charge for the engineering of entire projects of varying degrees of complexity including directing the efforts of other engineers to perform and deliver specific engineering deliverables;
review of work performed by other engineers; and sealing reports, calculations, and plans. Typical Responsibilities and Duties include the following (other duties may be assigned) : Perform structural engineering design of temporary structures used in the construction and demolition of structures.
Temporary structures may include shoring, reshoring, falsework, formwork, crane foundations, crane tie-back connections, temporary stability bracing.
Perform structural engineering design for construction procedures used in the construction and demolition of structures.
Construction procedures may include erection plans, demolition plans, jacking sequences, and post-tensioning sequences. Perform structural engineering evaluation of existing and proposed permanent structures for temporary loads and conditions.
These may include pump trucks, cranes, and other equipment on structures, temporary attachments to permanent works, hoisting from permanent works, and similar conditions.
Perform design assist and value engineering reviews of permanent structural systems, including foundations, framing systems, and delegated components.
Perform conceptual structural engineering design of complete structural systems for design-build efforts. Prepare appropriate analysis, calculations, details, plans, and reports as required to fulfill the responsibilities and duties above.
Work product may be for internal use or for submittal to clients and will typically be sealed in accordance with the licensing laws and requirements of the state where the project is being executed.
Perform quality control reviews of the plans, calculations, and other documentation prepared by other engineers employed by Brasfield & Gorrie or by external consultant engineers.
Support preconstruction teams as needed by identifying and evaluating risks, vetting means and methods, brainstorming schemes, and exploring new technologies.
Support operations teams by evaluating work that may be out of specification such as misplaced foundations and columns, distressed members, cracked concrete, misalignments, insufficient concrete breaks, and similar issues.
Develop remediations for work performed by Brasfield and Gorrie. Review proposed remediations for work performed by subcontractors.
Develop staff work plans and provide daily supervision of staff. Mentor and train staff. Education - Skills - Knowledge - Qualifications & Experience Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or related field 12+ years of engineering & design experience Ability to obtain and maintain Professional Engineering Licensure within 6 months of hire Expertise designing to the requirements of AISC and / or ACI.
Experience designing with IBC, ASCE, ACI, AISC, AWC, AISI, and AASHTO codes is desired. Expertise in the analysis and design of structural steel systems.
Experience with reinforced concrete, post-tensioned concrete, HSS, cold formed steel, timber, masonry, and foundation analysis and design is desired.
