Position Summary :
The KVC Healthcare Attorney will offer legal counsel on patient care, healthcare regulations, employment, and contracts.
As part of the in-house team, the attorney will manage outside counsel, advise clinical staff, interpret court orders, handle litigation, and manage legal filings.
They will also work closely with the General Counsel and appear in court as needed.

Education :
A Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school.
Experience :
At least 3 years of experience in providing legal counsel for matters involving : Federal laws and regulations governing the provision of and payment for healthcare services, Stark Law, the Anti-kickback Statute, the Medicare / Medicaid Conditions of Participation, physician / physician group contracting, hospital / facility licensing, healthcare operations, regulatory compliance, HIPAA, risk management, fraud and abuse issues, and litigation.

- Capability to work with multi-disciplinary workforce, as well as external stakeholders and clients.
- Requires Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook email, and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge and experience in working with a contract and litigation management software system.
Licensure / Certification :
- At least 21 years old
- Valid Drivers License
- Valid Auto Insurance
- License to practice law in Kansas or eligible for admission to the Kansas bar
Job Duties / Responsibilities :
- Provide legal counsel on patient care and healthcare regulatory matters to KVC entities and joint ventures.
- Conduct legal research, review contracts, medical records requests, subpoenas, and other operational documents.
- Offer concise legal opinions by analyzing complex facts, policies, and regulations.
- Maintain positive relationships with judges, attorneys, state agencies, and other legal system participants.
- Participate in compliance functions, internal investigations, and insurance claims reviews.
- Demonstrate excellent judgment, integrity, discretion, and communication skills.
- Track and manage active litigation, coordinating with outside counsel and employees.
- Based in Olathe, Kansas, with travel to Kansas and Missouri offices, and possibly other states.
- Participate in meetings, both in-person and remote, using various platforms.
- Stay updated on healthcare laws, proactively identifying legal risks.
- Provide training on healthcare laws and regulations as needed.
