CNC Machining Setup Technician (2nd Shift)

Summary

Sets-up and operates computer numerical control (CNC) lathe machines to perform machine functions such as turning, boring, facing, and threading parts of metallic workpieces such as castings, forgings, and bar stock by performing the following duties.

Position Requirements

Minimum of High School Education or GED equivalent Must be able to read and interprets blueprints, planning sheets, sketches, layout, job order and related technical data for product specifications such as dimensions and tolerances, and tooling instructions such as fixtures, feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cut, and determines setup procedures, control settings, material requirements, machining methods and sequence of operations.

Knowledge of math used in manufacturing, and inspection gages preferred. This is a physically demanding position requiring dexterity and good mechanical skills.

Must have good attendance and clean safety record and have own set of tools.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepares and pre-sets all tools needed for machining operations.
• Selects, positions, and secures tool in toolholder (chuck, collet, or toolpost).
• Positions and secures workpiece in holding device, machine table, chuck, centers, or fixtures.
• Moves controls to position tool and workpiece in relation to each other, and to set specified feeds, speeds, and depth of cut.
• Sets up fixture, starts machine, and turns handwheel to feed tool to workpiece or vice versa, and engages feed.
• Turns valve handle to direct flow of coolant or cutting oil against tool and workpiece.
• Starts machine and monitors displays and machine operation to detect malfunctions.
• Inspects first run piece and spot checks succeeding pieces for conformance to specifications (including documentation of results).
• Knowledge of Mastercam programming
• Knowledge of G and M codes
• Knowledge of G D and T blueprint reading
• Knowledge of 3 and 4 Axis Machining Center
• Knowledge of CMM a plus
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Operate machines to produce the required quantity of good quality parts to meet production standards.
• Visual inspection of parts during production cycle of equipment.
• Be able to read calipers and micrometers.
• Operation of CNC mills and lathes helpful.
• Stand and operate machine continuously up to 10 hours per day.
• Follow all ISO 9001 Requirements, Safety, Policies and Procedures
• Keep the work area clean and orderly.
• Perform other associated duties as needed to continue the operation of the department in the most productive and efficient manner.

This position is a 10-hour workday Monday-Thursday with overtime available on Friday’s.

Physical Demands

• Lifting 50lbs, reach and lift heavy parts several hundred repetitions per shift
• Ability to stand on one’s feet, bend, and / or twist a minimum of 8 hours per day
• Must be able to ascend / descend stairs
• Must be able to sit, walk, climb, stoop and kneel

Qualifications

• High School / GED / or equivalent
• Ability to move between machines as needed
• Knowledge of molds and casting process theory
