Description
Responsible for supervising and providing care for children ages 3 to 5 years old, including children with disabilities, attending York County Head Start after the regular school day.
Works in collaboration with other program staff to plan and carry out tasks that engage young children in daily activities in a safe and clean learning environment.
Duties include but are not limited to interacting with children, offering recreational activities, teaching children different learning concepts, and assisting children with personal care tasks when needed.
Work is performed under regular supervision. Program hours are 3 : 00-5 : 00 Monday- Friday. Additional hours may be possible based on the needs of the program.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate with any equivalent combination of education and experience working with preschoolers and / or preadolescent children is preferred.
York County Children & Family Services requires all staff to provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 or obtain approval for exemption due to medical or religious reasons before employment.
Possess or ability to obtain CPR / AED / First Aid Certification.
Supplemental Information
Requires an initial physical examination to include screening for tuberculosis and periodic reexaminations to ensure the incumbent poses no significant health risk to the participants in the Head Start Program.
Requires acceptable criminal and child protective services background checks.
Possession of a valid commercial driver's license with appropriate endorsements issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia is preferred.
Physical Demands
Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including copiers, laptops, iPads, computer software, tablets, Smartboards, etc.
Requires walking or standing to a significant degree. In working with and caring for the children, there is constant standing and walking, bending, stooping, climbing on the recreational equipment, and occasionally running and crawling while playing with the children.
Must be able to sit on the floor with children, push and pull of toys and wagons, and sometimes lift children weighing around 40 55 lbs. when necessary.
