Title : Director of Public Health Programs

Report To : SVP, Programs & Services

The Director of Public Health Programs is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive public health initiatives aimed at enhancing the well-being of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and chronic health conditions.

This role involves formulating public health strategies, managing staff, coordinating with various stakeholders, and securing funding through grants.

Key Duties and Responsibilities :

Empowering and Respectful Work : Ensure that all activities and interactions are conducted in a manner that respects and empowers families and individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and chronic health conditions.

Program Formulation and Administration : Develop and manage comprehensive public health programs based on identified needs and available resources.

Provide recommendations to senior leadership on policies, procedures, goals, and service delivery methods for public health and clinical care programs.

Funding Acquisition : Take charge of identifying new funding sources and lead the preparation, submission, and negotiation of grant applications to secure necessary funding.

Relationship Cultivation : Foster relationships with stakeholders to enhance advocacy for individuals with disabilities and their caregivers.

Program Development : Design and implement programs targeting social determinants of health for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, with a particular focus on those with autism and / or epilepsy and their caregivers.

Staff Management : Plan, organize, and direct the work of staff involved in health program delivery.

Program Coordination : Oversee and coordinate activities in key areas, including :

  • Health Insurance Navigation
  • Patient Assistance Programs
  • Caregiver Support
  • Information and Referral
  • Education and Training

Budget and Performance Management : Direct the preparation of annual budgets and funding applications. Monitor and evaluate program delivery, performance, and expenditures.

Collaboration : Work with federal and state health officials and representatives from local public and private health agencies to develop programs addressing the public health needs of individuals with disabilities and chronic health conditions.

Public Engagement : Make public presentations and engage with pharmaceutical companies, physicians, and health and social service agency administrators.

Secure and maintain community support for public health programs.

Additional Duties : Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or Chief Executive Officer.

Education and Experience :

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Public Health or a related field strongly preferred

Proven project management skills; PMP Certification strongly preferred

Knowledge of public health practices and techniques, and principles and practices for determining and serving community health needs.

This position requires a dedicated professional with a strong background in public health, project management, and grant acquisition, who is committed to improving the health and well-being of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and chronic health conditions and their caregivers.
