POSITION SUMMARY

The General Manager (GM) is responsible for the development and execution of the branch business plan, its financial results, and the optimization of the five core performance metrics of Equipment Depot.

He / She is responsible for identifying and developing the facility, equipment and organization resources necessary for effectively implementing the branch business plan.

He / She provides input into the development of a business and operating plan to achieve the overall regional and corporate objectives.

In addition, the GM is responsible for providing input into the markets that the company will pursue and the products and services it will use to service those markets, the competitive approach the business will use in serving the targeted markets and the competitive advantages that the business will seek to build.

Finally, he / she is responsible for operating the assigned branches in conformance with the company policies and all applicable federal, state and local regulations.

Essential Functions Statement(s)

Management

Working with the Regional Vice President (or Regional General Manager if appropriate), define the overall strategic direction of the business within assigned branches.

In that regard, provide input into the markets that the company will pursue and the products and services it will use to service those markets, the competitive approach the business will use in serving the targeted markets and the competitive advantages that the business will seek to build.

  • Ensure the annual financial objectives of the assigned branches are met with respect to revenues, direct costs, gross margin, operating costs and branch profitability.
  • Develop a rolling two-year operating plan to guide the business within the assigned branches. Drive the actions needed to achieve those objectives and prepare and manage the operating budget for the assigned branches.
  • Ensure the assigned branches have human and physical resources needed to execute the plan and achieve the annual financial and business objectives of the assigned branches.
  • Manage the overall execution of the business and operating plan within assigned branches. Assess the reasons for performance variation and ensure appropriate adjustments are made to execute the plans.
  • Drive performance in the assigned branches to optimize the results across Equipment Depot’s five core metrics and supporting key performance indicators employee satisfaction, customer satisfaction, growth, productivity and efficiency, and profitability.
  • Participate in organization teams to review and define ways to improve the reliability and efficiency of the company processes.

Financial Management

  • Manage the financial performance of the assigned branches. Assess on a regular basis the financial results in comparison to the annual operating plan and budget and initiate corrective action where required.
  • Review the accounts receivables schedules on a weekly basis and maintain the DSO levels within target levels. Oversee the initiatives to collect all past receivables.
  • Provide input into capital expenditures at the assigned branches according to company policy.

Human Resource Management

  • Build a collaborative, team-based high-performance organization, one in which the employees are empowered and are encouraged to actively participate in the processes and teams to improve the performance of the branches.
  • Provide input into the base compensation recommendations made by the managers with respect to employees in the assigned branches.

Process the base compensation recommendations for the managers and employees who report directly report to the GM.

  • Develop the managers who report directly to the GM. Consistently train and coach each manager to strengthen their skills and performance.
  • Provide the proper training and coaching needed for employees to effectively operate and be in compliance with all governing regulations.
  • Provide regular feedback; conduct the performance appraisals of the managers who report directly to the GM.
  • Organize a flexible and properly trained workforce to execute the company business strategies and effectively service the branch’s customers.
  • Design and implement employee communication meetings and programs to ensure all employees are kept apprised of the goals and objectives of the company and branch, the performance of the company and process.
  • Build a positive culture based on the four core EQD values.

Sales Management and Marketing

  • Monitor the trends and developments within the geographic market serviced by the assigned branches.
  • Provide input into the markets that the organization will pursue within the assigned branches along with the equipment assets that are needed to service them.
  • Working with the sales team, oversee the company’s quotes to the customers in its target market and the prices offered.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of the key competitors to understand their strengths, weaknesses and business strategies. Continuously monitor their actions.
  • Manage the performance of the sales organization and work with the appropriate Regional Director of Sales, initiate corrective action as required.
  • Monitor the satisfaction of the organization’s customers and ensure processes are in place to continually improve their satisfaction levels.
  • Manage the relationship with the company’s OEM’s within the assigned geography.

Operations

  • Working with the branch leadership team,
  • Ensure proper servicing of Equipment Depot’s customers so that their satisfaction with the organization is optimized.
  • Ensure that the branch processes operate as designed and are in conformance with the process guidelines and procedures.
  • Ensure the branch facilities and workplaces are maintained in a clean, well-lit, and well-organized manner in keeping with 5S principles.
  • Ensure the branch operations are managed in a safe and environmentally responsible manner and in conformance with company policies and all governmental regulations and laws.
  • Establish customer service and quality control standards for all aspects of the operation equipment rental, parts sales service of external customers equipment and service of company-owned equipment.
  • Optimize the productivity of the branch operations for the parts, rental coordination and service functions.
  • Organize continuous improvement teams in the branch to involve employees in the process of improving customer satisfaction, productivity, and overall execution.
  • Participate in continuous improvement teams for its sales, service and rental projects.

Qualifications

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education : Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; & five to seven years related experience and / or training;

or equivalent combination of education and experience.
