Summary / Purpose

Plans, directs and coordinates technical support for the Machining / Grind manufacturing processes. Primary objectives are improvements in Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost.

Essential Duties and Accountabilities :

  • Develops and evaluates manufacturing methods
  • Uses a hands-on approach to develop and implement solutions to manufacturing problems and improvements in manufacturing methods that result in improved quality and increased productivity while maintaining a safe working environment
  • Analyzes and troubleshoots production equipment based on technical drawings and mechanical evaluation
  • Identifies, evaluates and recommends changes or improvements in operational processes, procedures and equipment and provides analysis to support these changes
  • Works concurrently with Engineering to identify repeat issues to increase production processes
  • Confers with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods
  • Executes time studies and performs gap analysis using Lean Six Sigma tools (or similar methods)
  • Leads efforts to lower the cost of manufacturing by eliminating waste in both manpower and materials
  • Executes improvements that consider ergonomics and human factor engineering
  • Collects cycle time data on tooling and automated equipment; evaluates overall capacity and identifies bottlenecks throughout the manufacturing process
  • Estimates production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions
  • Confers with management, engineering and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes
  • Applies statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential including machine capability studies, etc.
  • Performs a variety of engineering assignments in work measurement for establishment of standards
  • Strong understanding of engineering processes and the ability to convert requirements into manufacturing instructions
  • Provides clear descriptions of tooling / consumables needed; creates and maintains (BOM) for accuracy
  • Supports management with Kaizens, JIT projects and shop floor management activities to achieve task reductions
  • Supports 5-S, Kaizen Team and Koyo Production Systems, TS16949 and ISO14000 efforts throughout the plant

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Strong background utilizing Lean Six Sigma tools and methodologies (or similar methods)
  • Skilled in understanding statistics and using statistical software to evaluate and summarize data
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
  • Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional teams
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong ability to work in teams with a collaborative interpersonal style
  • Exhibits strong analytical, problem solving, negotiation, organizational and teaching skills
  • Interacts effectively with individuals and groups inside and outside the organization
  • Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with people at all levels

Education and Experience :

  • Bachelors Degree in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering preferred
  • Prefer 5-7 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Hands-on experience working in an automated machining / Grinding environment
  • Bearings experience preferred; experience with CAD will be a plus
  • Hands-on tool use and mechanical systems knowledge preferred

Work is mostly performed in the manufacturing setting (approx. 75%) and in the office setting (approx. 25%) with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards and with substantial time spent working on a computer.

Requires sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate computer keyboard and other office equipment.

The performance of this position requires exposure to manufacturing areas which require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields, safety shoes and mandatory hearing protection.
