Position Summary
This recruitment will be used to hire multiple part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Undergraduate Learning Assistants (ULA) Spring term for the College of Engineering (CoE) at Oregon State University (OSU)
This application is one step in the application process, which also includes having responded to a survey sent to engineering undergraduate students on May 20, 2024 that asked for information such as past experiences, interest, and availability.
Position Duties 100% Duties include :
- Holding office hours
- Grading papers
- Copying materials for the course
- Assisting in 30-person lab sessions
- Tutoring
- Leading study sessions
- Attending weekly meetings
- Assist checking off work with direct supervision of the supervisor via a grading rubric, breakdown will vary by course
- Attending ULA peer mentor training meetings 2-3 times per term
- Other tasks as needed by the supervising Instructor

- Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
- Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
- Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standardHigh School student : Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling programUndergraduate and post-baccalaureate student : 6 credit hours per termUndergraduate international student : 12 credit hours per term*Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School : 5 credit hours per termGraduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School : 9 credit hours per term*
- International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered full-time by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
A reduced course load is approved by the (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center. Additional Required Qualifications
- Engineering background
- Depending on the course, successful completion of the course supporting may be required
- Student in good standing including maintaining a strong academic integrity record within CoE. Students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq.
Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 2 years Preferred (Special) Qualifications

Working Conditions / Work Schedule
- Work may be performed in classrooms, labs, or other office locations
- Expect a minimum of 8 hours per week, and an average of 10 hours per week
- Availability for up to (but not over) 24 hours of work per week
