Lighthouse Lab Services is thrilled to partner with a rapidly expanding and highly regarded dermatology and skin surgery center in the Cleveland, OH area! We are currently seeking a skilled Histology Technician / Histotechnologist to join their dynamic team in Mayfield Heights, OH.
FLEXIBLE Schedule offered! The lab is open to the Histology Technician working mornings, days, evenings or overnight.
Essential Responsibilities
The Histology Technician will perform the various tasks required for receiving, processing, and preparing patient tissue specimens for microscopic examination and analysis by the Pathologist.
Under the supervision of the pathology supervisor, performs all technical histology laboratory’s functions which are included but not limited to accessioning, grossing (skin only), tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, routine H&E staining, special stains, immunohistochemistry, as well as other duties in the area.
- Exercises independent judgment in dealing with procedural and technical problems.
- Examines slides and / or blocks to ensure tissue preparation is meeting laboratory requirements.
- Providing our clients the most efficient, cost-effective, and timely turn-around we can provide.
- Accessions the specimen using our LIS system. Verifying that the specimen containers, requisitions, and part types all match BEFORE accessioning.
- Using proper grossing techniques when dissecting specimens.
- Properly embeds tissue.
- Slide quality is a high priority.
- Daily cleans and maintains laboratory equipment.
- Assists pathologist and other lab personnel.
- Keeps current with changes in laboratory procedures.
- Operates, cleans, and sterilizes laboratory glassware, instruments, and workstation.
- Performs special stains and Immunohistochemistry using approved protocols and controls.
- Files, retrieves, and distributes blocks, slides, and pathology reports.
- Answers phones in a professional and helpful manner.
- Maintains strictest confidentiality.
- Complies with all State, Federal, professional regulations as well as company and departmental rules, polices, and procedural manuals.
- Adherence to CAP, CLIA, State Regulations, HIPAA, Safety and OSHA Regulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Completion of a NAACLS accredited histotechnology program or an Associate degree plus one year full time experience in histopathology within the last three years under the supervision of a pathologist
- Required ASCP certification as a Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL).
