Position Highlights : 9A Medical-Surgical Unit
- Number of beds on unit : 24 private beds
- Patient population : Medical-surgical, serving patients admitted for illness, surgery, and various diagnoses, typically above 17 years of age.
- Nurse to Patient ratio : 1 : 5 (occasionally 1 : 6)
- Department culture and resources : Fast-paced unit with medically complex patients. Emphasis on teamwork and communication for safe and quality care.
- Frequent nursing skills / equipment used : Nursing assessments, medication administration, collaboration with multiple disciplines, IV insertion, foley insertion, tracheostomy care, wound care, ostomy care, BLS (within 30 days of hire).
Responsibilities :
- Administer medications and IV piggyback meds.
- Assist with trach care, dressing changes, and documentation.
- Communicate with physicians / APPs and coordinate patient care.
- Provide patient education and discharge instructions.
