Title : Executive Director

Reports to : Board of Directors

Supervises : All Staff

Position Overview : The Executive Director will be responsible for providing strategic leadership as Excelsior enters its second decade, overseeing the school’s operations, and ensuring the fulfillment of the Excelsior mission.

The ideal candidate will have a strong educational background, an understanding and appreciation of the classical education model, exemplary leadership skills, and a passion for fostering a positive learning environment

Position Specifics :

  • Strategic Leadership : Develop and implement a strategic vision for Excelsior, aligned with the school’s mission and goals.
  • Operational Oversight : Oversee day-to-day operations, including curriculum development, student services, and extracurricular activities.
  • Financial Management : Manage the school’s budget, allocate resources effectively, and ensure financial sustainability.
  • Community Engagement : Build positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and the broader community to create a supportive and collaborative learning environment.
  • Staff Development : Recruit, hire, and develop a high-performing team of educators and staff members.
  • Compliance : Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and charter agreements.
  • Advocacy : Advocate for the school’s interests at the local, state, and national levels to support its mission and goals.
  • Fundraising and Development : Collaborate with stakeholders to secure funding and resources to enhance the school’s programs and facilities.
  • Student Success Initiatives : Implement and oversee initiatives focused on student success and growth mindset, including academic support programs, tutoring services, and interventions to address individual student needs.
  • Professional Development : Provide ongoing professional development opportunities for educators and staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and ensuring alignment with educational best practices.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting : Utilize data-driven decision-making processes to assess student performance, identify areas for improvement, and communicate outcomes to stakeholders through regular reports.
  • Grant Writing : Identify and pursue grant opportunities to secure additional funding for special projects, programs, and initiatives that align with the school’s goals.
  • Innovative Program Development : Explore and implement innovative educational programs, teaching methods, and extracurricular activities that enhance the overall educational experience for students.
  • Crisis Management : Develop and implement crisis management plans to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff in emergency situations.
  • Public Relations and Marketing : Act as a spokesperson for the school, cultivating positive relationships with the media and promoting the school’s achievements and initiatives through various channels.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Proven experience in educational leadership, preferably as a principal, assistant principal, or executive director in a charter school or similar setting.
  • A master’s degree in education, educational leadership, curriculum design, or another related graduate field.
  • Strong understanding of growth mindset, curriculum development, instructional strategies, and educational best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding and appreciation of classical education.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a diverse team.
  • Knowledge of charter school laws, regulations, and funding mechanisms.
