Job Summary :
The Calibration Lab Manager oversees all operations within the calibration laboratory, ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and compliance of test equipment used across diverse industries.
This role is responsible for managing a team of technicians, coordinating equipment calibration schedules, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring all processes comply with industry regulations.
The Calibration Lab Manager also plays a key role in optimizing lab efficiency and supporting continuous improvement efforts. Key Responsibilities :
Leadership and Team Management :
o Supervise, train, and mentor a team of calibration technicians, providing guidance in technical and professional development.
o Coordinate technician workload to meet project deadlines and quality standards.
o Coordinates with Sales department and occasionally with customers to resolve issues relating to equipment repair, calibration, and availability.
o Foster a culture of safety, accuracy, and quality within the lab.
o Holds one on one meetings with staff.
o Attends weekly managers' meetings.
Calibration Process Oversight : o Develop, implement, and maintain calibration procedures for a wide range of test equipment, including but not limited to electronic, mechanical, and environmental testing tools.
o Ensure all calibration activities comply with industry standards (ISO / IEC 17025, NIST traceability, etc.) and customer requirements.
Ensuring all Lab stantdards are calibrated prior to expiration.
o Review and approve calibration results, reports, and documentation for accuracy and compliance.
Lab Operations Management :
o Maintain calibration schedules and oversee the workflow to maximize productivity while meeting accuracy and reliability standards.
o Oversee maintenance, repair, and calibration of lab equipment, coordinating with vendors and suppliers as needed.
o Implement and enforce quality control measures to enhance the reliability and repeatability of results.
Compliance and Documentation :
o Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, standards, and accreditation requirements.
o Maintain detailed and accurate records of all calibration activities, ensuring traceability and easy access for audits.
o Support internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and addressing any non-conformances.
Continuous Improvement and Innovation :
o Identify and implement opportunities for process improvements to increase lab efficiency and reduce turnaround times.
o Responsible for expanding ATEC's capabilities and scope of Accreditation.
o Stay updated on the latest calibration techniques, technologies, and industry trends.
o Evaluate and recommend new equipment, software, and tools to enhance lab capabilities.
Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in engineering, Metrology, Physics, or a related field (or equivalent work experience). " 5+ years of experience in calibration, metrology, or test equipment management, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
Proficiency with a wide variety of calibration equipment and tools used in electronic, mechanical, and environmental testing.
In-depth knowledge of quality standards such as ISO / IEC 17025 and familiarity with industry regulations. " Knowledgeable with Uncertainties and automation.
Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
Analytical skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving. " Certification in metrology or calibration (e.g., ASQ CCT) is a plus.
