Overview
The Engineer IV will exhibit a strong dedication to delivering consistent and high-quality services. They will be involved in various construction projects within the city, including capital improvements and commercial / subdivision projects.
The engineer will have the authority to modify project properties.
Responsibilities
- Authority to change the scope of projects to include changing materials, changing quantities of materials, issuing change orders to contractors, and making recommendations up to an established amount, which is currently $100,000 or less
- Runs all pre-construction meetings and provides project requirements to contractors
- After confirming satisfaction, the signs all closeout documents and requests final payment
- Attendance of public meetings to provide status updates on various city projects including current and future projects
- Support all other city departments in both a technical and professional aspect while providing background information on projects to the Public Information Officer and / or Executive Director of Public Works
- Periodic visits to construction sites to monitor progress, assist in any dispute resolutions and solve construction problems
- Oversee all Quality Control Testing whether performed in-house or by a consultant
- May be asked to perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Requires bachelor’s degree (BA / BS) in Civil / Structural / Environmental Engineering or related field
- Minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible experience with bachelor's degree (BA / BS)
- Requires Professional Engineer (PE) License at time of hire or if out of state must acquire in Texas within 6 months of hire
- A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
- Proof of Automobile Liability Insurance

Basis of Rating
Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.

- Selected applicants must be able to pass a background investigation and a pre-employment drug test.
- Any position that lists a minimum qualification for education level and / or license / certification will require the applicant to provide proof of documentation if selected for hire into the position with the City of Corpus Christi.
