Graduate Practical Nurses (GPNs)
Essential / Primary Function of the Job :
- Under the direction of the nurse manager or registered nurse and following specific care plans, performs a broad range of nursing functions including administering of medications and other related protocols and assignments.
- Maintains various records and reports reflecting care given such as nursing notes, charges, receipts for drugs, and other matters that are a part of unit procedures.
- When requested, oversees, and supervises the activities of subordinate staff including CNAs. Makes daily assignments and prepares other schedules.
- As part of the standard routine, observes conditions, physical changes, and other significant events of residents making necessary documentation and reporting observations and recommendations to the supervisor for review and action.
Performs rounds with physicians as requested as part of patient assessment and evaluation.
- Oversees various services performed with residents including the meal service to ensure residents are comfortable and meals are delivered in the prescribed manner.
- Assists supervision in orientation and training of new staff and other administrative assignments requested.
- Follows standards of nursing practice, policies and procedures related to medications, documentation, treatments and resident care
- Keeps Head Nurse / Supervisor informed of resident, family or staff issues
- Attends required education programs within the facility and assigns unit staff to attend programs
- Follows infection control and safety policies and procedures
- Follows BHNRC’s Corporate Compliance Regulations
- Carries out other duties as assigned
Equipment to be Used :
General office equipment, basic nursing equipment, medication cart, treatment cart and supplies, rehabilitation equipment, syringes, O2 equipment, suction machines, medication and pill accessories, tube feeding equipment, pumps, IV equipment, nebulizers, mechanical lifts, enema equipment, otoscopes, beds, scales, bed and chair alarms, key pads for alarms, lift devices, pulse O2 units, restraints, gait belts, glucose monitors, tracheotomies and supplies, ostomy products, urinary catheters and bags, infection control equipment, fire equipment and alarms, and other equipment that is required for the care of residents in a long term care facility.
Requirements :
- Must have up-to-date MMR vaccination & physical
- Must show proof of ATT number
