Job Description

The City of Chesapeake Public Works Department is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Engineer I to join our Facilities Maintenance Team .

Duties include, but are not limited to :

  • Manages small to medium sized maintenance projects.
  • Repairs and improvement projects to include roof replacements, pavement and sidewalk repair and replacement, generator and HVAC replacements, security improvements, etc., at City facilities.
  • Works with consultants, Architecture / Engineering firms, and code officials to produce engineering studies and designs for a variety of facility projects.
  • Works with City customers to design and construct renovations in City facilities.
  • Works with Purchasing to develop / update specifications for IDIQ maintenance contracts (plumbing, HVAC, electrical, etc.).

Required Qualifications VOCATIONAL / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT : Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related field.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT : None required with possession of a related bachelor’s degree. Without a degree, two years of experience in addition to the degree equivalency are required.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES : Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record in compliance with . Depending on position, State and / or City certification(s) may be required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and / or City-wide emergencies.

Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties. Preferred Qualifications
