Under the direction of the Controller, the Accounting Clerk will be responsible for providing accounting support to key functional areas within the accounting department.
This position will assist the accounting staff with daily accounting, reporting and analysis of financial activity associated with all Marmon Utility facilities.
This role offers a rich diversity of tasks across various accounting functions, presenting an excellent opportunity for professional development and growth within the department.
Accounts Receivable tasks :
- Responsibilities split between this role and the AR Specialist based on volume and complexity
- Daily cash application
- Collections
- Customer Maintenance
- State Sales Tax filings
- Initial new customer packet review
- Scanning order packets after daily customer invoicing is completed
- Backup for daily customer invoicing process
Accounts Payable tasks :
- Process vendor invoices ensuring that each invoice is an accurate reflection of Hendrix and Kerite financial obligation to the vendor in terms of quantity, and cost of all materials received
- Assist in processing of weekly check disbursements by assembling the invoices for payment
- Weekly Travel & Expense reports review and approval
- Assist with monthly Purchase Card statement and receipt review and tracking
- Complete monthly consignment vouchering and matching for three vendors
Month End Processes
- Participate in month-end close activities including preparation of journal entries, reconciliation of accounts, and other accounting duties in a timely manner
- Update and distribute reporting trackers such as Balance Sheet and Journal Entry trackers
- Monthly compliance reporting analysis between the ERP and compliance tools (MPact and Amber Road)
- Assists with research, filing, data entry, and recording and maintaining accurate and complete financial records
Assist with ad-hoc projects as they arise
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE : Associate degree in Accounting or related field or 2+ years of experience in Clerical Accounting, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable or similar, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
COMPUTER & SOFTWARE SKILLS : A strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products with advanced skills in Excel, and the ability to learn functionality in softwares and ERP system
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES :
- Good analytical, organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively
- Good written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively
- Strong attention to detail with a dedication to accuracy
- Knowledge of GAAP and basic accounting principles, adherence to internal controls to comply with Sarbanes-Oxley, and the ability to learn and execute corporate standard policies and procedures
WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to move file boxes weighing up to 25 pounds throughout the office / plant
- Ability to ascend / descend two flights of stairs daily as the Accounting Department is located on a second-floor mezzanine and archived records are also stored in elevated locations with only stair access
