The Role :

We are seeking a motivated scientist with a passion for nutrition, eager to learn and develop their skills to join our Research and Development team.

You will collaborate with the product development team to manage nutrition / wellness product development projects from concept to commercialization for companion animals.

A successful candidate will have some experience in formulation development and familiarity with formulation programs, along with excellent interpersonal and teamwork abilities, demonstrating the capacity to communicate effectively while thriving in a collaborative environment.

This position is located at our Secaucus, NJ office, and has the flexibility to work a hybrid schedule.

Your Responsibilities :

• Lead project initiatives to develop new products and line extensions and manage timelines from concept to commercialization.
• Work with co-manufacturers to develop processes that will deliver on product design, concept, nutrition, and quality.
• Formulate and maintain data / documentation in our formulation software program for raw materials, formulas and finished products.
• Work with marketing to interpret and utilize consumer research data to develop products that meet consumer and pet needs.
• Develop and issue specifications for finished products and raw materials.
• Perform routine stability studies and make recommendations for finished product shelf-life.
• Coordinate biological feeding tests and Home Use Tests to ensure product acceptability & palatability with the pet.
• Participate in team and departmental activities such as meetings, committees and administrative obligations.
• Participate in cost improvement programs and identify potential cost improvements within their area of expertise.
• Analyze competitors' products and propose improvements to Hartz's products.
• Keep abreast with emerging technologies by engaging in literature searches, attending technical meetings, industry conferences, and training classes.

Requirements :

• Education : Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Food Engineering or Animal Science
• Experience : Minimum of 1 year of R&D experience in animal nutrition, food science or related field; applicable internships and work study programs are accepted
• Formulation Proficiency : Demonstrated ability in formulation development and utilization of formulation programs
• Data Analysis : Ability to analyze scientific data and determine if / what modifications are needed
• Communication Skills : Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
• Teamwork : Excellent interpersonal and team skills; ability to communicate, negotiate, influence, and thrive in a cross-functional environment
• Technical Proficiency : Proficiency in Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills
• Business Travel : Ability and willingness to travel occasionally to manufacturing sites, industry trade shows and forums
