We work collaboratively with the goal of improving the academic achievement of all students with disabilities by ensuring they receive meaningful and relevant access to grade level core instruction within the school.
Teachers provide appropriate, effective, and culturally relevant instruction for grades 9-12 aligned to SAT, AVID College Readiness, and state standards.
IHSCA ensures that students are provided a safe learning environment that supports student social-emotional growth as well as academics.
POSITION DESCRIPTION The Mathematics (math) teacher reports to the principal and is responsible for teaching Math to high school students.
The teacher provides effective and culturally relevant instruction to grades 9-12 that meets both SAT and AVID College Readiness standards and Common Core standards in order to prepare students to graduate from IHSCA with an effective grasp, while incorporating applications of mathematics to post-secondary experiences.
The math teacher presents concepts with varying research based teaching strategies to ensure student comprehension, while applying hands-on activities, and being actively aware of multiple intelligences in the student body when preparing differentiated curriculum and lessons.
In addition the teacher should demonstrate mastery of using research based and effective classroom management techniques.
Ultimately, the teacher is responsible for developing mathematically skilled students who are capable of mastering the subject to be fully prepared for the rigors of demanding college curriculum and success as future medical professionals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Actively working with fellow the leadership team and department members to develop an appropriate and rigorous curriculum for 9th-12th grade students
- Using all resources made available by leadership team and actively seeking out new sources of material to share with other department members
- Continually following best-practices to create a safe and inviting classroom environment that fosters both academic and social-emotional learning for all students
- Completing IHSCA weekly lesson plans based on course scope and sequence in a timely manner and making adjustments as recommended by leadership team and / or administration
- Creating lesson plans for all grades and courses being taught by the teacher
- Creating and maintaining a substitute folder with lesson plans and materials
- Uses STAR, AVID and Khan Academy data to accurately track student progress on both large scale standardized tests and course-specific tests and quizzes
- Designing projects that are rubric-based, rigorous, culturally relevant, and challenging for students
- Ensuring that all students, including students with disabilities, receive appropriate accommodations / modifications as stipulated on and the Students with Disabilities Act
- Collaborating in a timely fashion with the special education department to create opportunities for co-teaching and positive whole group interactions with the SPED teacher in the general education classroom, including scaffold and differentiated instruction for all students
- Providing students with scheduled office hours on a regular basis in order to assist students in need of extra help; regularly holding student / teacher conferences and documenting conferences
- Submitting daily attendance into PowerSchool
- Inputting grades into PowerSchool on a timely basis
- Completing all SPED paperwork in a timely fashion
- Complying with all regulatory paperwork requirements in a timely fashion
- Contacting parents via e-mail, phone, or during parent-teacher conferences to discuss academics and behavior on a regular basis
- Including a school-wide focus on the social / cultural domain of learning and student experience, with an emphasis on incorporating the No Non-Sense Nurturer framework and health sciences related materials into the classroom on a regular basis
- Supporting the science components of IHSCA’s curriculum with applied math skills
- Knowledge of and a commitment to uphold the mission, vision, and values of IHSCA
- Taking attendance and submitting it to registrar office as stipulated by the registrar
- Participating in to discuss academic student progress
- Willingness to sponsoring extracurricular activities
- Following all IHSCA school-wide standards regarding teacher behaviors
- Adhering to all IHSCA electronic and web-based rules and restrictions
- Follow all guidelines found in the Instituto and IHSCA employee handbooks
- Other duties as assigned
- Identifies and participates in conferences, workshops and Professional Development sessions to keep up to date with the best teaching practices and implementing best practices in the classroom.
- Working collaboratively with other core instructors to develop lesson plans that address a variety of student learning styles and needs
- Work collaboratively with social workers, special education staff, and deans of students to ensure the behavioral and educational abilities of students are developed for success after high school.
- Continually assessing personal and professional growth and advancing professional skills through the use of reflective practices.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, mathematics education, or a combination of a mathematics and education degree
- Previous experience teaching mathematics
- Professional educator’s license to teach high school math; Reading and / or ESL / bilingual endorsement a plus
- Technologically in the use of the Internet and Microsoft Office required
- Ability to speak Spanish and English fluently preferred
- Experience with extra-curricular programming such as school sports, After School Matters, student clubs, and other enrichment programs is preferred
- Ability to maintain a high sense of confidentiality
- Ability to work with a wide variety of people
- Ability to work as a team player and as an individual with minimal supervision

- PHYSICAL DEMANDS Nature of work requires an ability to operate standard business office equipment. Requires ability to communicate and exchange information, collect, compile and prepare work documents, set-up and maintain work files.
Approximately 50% of time spent standing as well as some lifting (under 20 lbs.) WORKING CONDITIONS Majority of work performed in a general school environment.
Position requires availability for extended hours plus non-traditional hours may be required to perform job duties. Also requires participation and attendance at organization sponsored events and meetings.
