The electrical Jr estimator position is responsible for thoroughly reviewing project documentation received during the bidding process, preparing bid takeoffs and cost estimates, completing bid documents, and preparing a well-written proposal for electrical construction projects.

In this role the employee will manage multiple tasks, work well under time pressure, and adapt to changing priorities with a positive attitude.

The ideal candidate is self-motivated, proactive, and an effective team player able to interact professionally with all levels of employees, management, vendors, customers, and others.

This position is not responsible for sales, nor is it responsible for generating bidding opportunities. The ideal candidate has experience in industrial and control-based estimating.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties include but are not limited to

Primary Responsibilities :

  • Upon notification that a project will be bid, gather all documentation from the client and organize said data within our procedural guidelines.
  • Analyze blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
  • Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
  • Collect historical cost data to estimate costs for current or future products.
  • Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops.
  • Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments, or construction foremen to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
  • Coordinate total estimating effort relevant to a particular bid or project.
  • Provide complete conceptual and final estimating input on complex projects.
  • Review proposal specifications, drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, etc., to determine the scope of work and required contents of project estimate.
  • Review and incorporate historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc., into unit and man-hour figures.
  • Prepare estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work using the estimating software.
  • Ascertain any risks related to the estimate in order to guarantee that provisions are made for those risks in the tender.
  • Ensure that estimates are complete, well-organized and ready for review before the given deadline.
  • Provide accurate, timely and complete estimates and change order quotations.
  • Maintain files of working documents as back-ups.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE :

  • 1 - 3+ years’ experience with commercial and industrial electrical estimating preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Project Management, Architecture, or Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • Experience in estimating, or in closing construction estimates.
  • Experience in Accubid software (or other estimating software).
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, purchase orders, contracts, cost coding systems, etc.
  • Knowledge and experience in managing multi-disciplined projects, a plus.
  • Strong conceptual estimating skills with limited information.
  • Understanding plans and specifications.
  • Ability to build strong relationships both internally and externally.
