Summary of Job Duties : The assistant athletic trainer is responsible for assisting the Director of Sports Medicine to provide primary medical care to student athletes participating in the university sports programs.
The assistant athletic trainer reports to the Director of Sports Medicine.
Education & Work Experience : Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in sports medicine or a related health field; plus one year of related work experience.
- Related work as a Graduate Assistant or Athletic Training student may count towards one year or work experience.) Must be certified by NATA-BOC;
- licensed by the Arkansas State Board of Athletic Training (or eligible to obtain license, application for license must be submitted by official start date);
and have a valid driver’s license (MVR completed on finalists)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities : Provide prevention, treatment, and physical rehabilitation of sports injuries Set up and coverage of team practices and games, including travel Documentation of daily treatments and student athlete’s information Maintain athletic training facility, including supplies and equipment inventory Communication with doctors and scheduling appointments as needed.
Other Duties and Responsibilities : Other duties as assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine : Responsible for maintaining a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner to foster teamwork and to provide leadership for subordinates Requires consistent on-time attendance Assist with collecting and filing proper documentation for insurance claims Assist in the coordination of annual physicals for student-athletes Adapt strength and conditioning programs as needed for individual athlete’s needs Help facilitate mental health care of student athletes
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities : To perform the job successfully, the following competencies are required for the essential functions of this position : Working knowledge of sports medicine and athletic injuries Good organization and communication skills Ability to perform job in a fast paced environment with little or no direct supervision from head athletic trainer Ability to perform physically demanding work Knowledge of HIPAA parameters and discretion in dealing with medical issues Familiarity with NCAA and MIAA Conference policies and procedures Have a current CPR / First Aid certification (or obtain prior to start date)

Frequent contact with medical professionals, personnel from other agencies and institutions and the general public.
Special Job Dimensions : Work performed primarily in the athletic training room or at sports venues. Travel with overnight stays will be required.
Extended hours and attendance at all home athletic events is required.
