Program Manager, Lab Quality

Purpose of Position

This position will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of lab operations by ensuring effective quality control and quality assurance practices are in place and effective, including accurate procedures, competency of people, and reliability of equipment.

This position will also be responsible for adherence to the CCHC Laboratories Quality Management Program and continuous improvement initiatives for lab operations and interdepartmental projects

Description

1. Develops Laboratory Quality Goals and Objectives in accordance with Laboratory Policies and Strategic Objectives.

2. Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships within the affiliates of CCHC Laboratories and throughout the professional community.

3. Coordinates and manages core measures quality control activities to ensure that standards and procedures are performed and recorded appropriately.

4. Leads CCHC laboratories in the prioritization of quality issues and in the development of succinct, valid indicators to measure quality processes and outcomes.

5. Participates in the collaborative development of standard formats for data presentation.

6. Promotes data / knowledge based decision-making and quantifying improvement through measurement.

7. Maintains a thorough knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance pertaining to laboratory operations.

8. Participates in Quality Programs : CAP, AABB and CLIA standards, safety, performance improvement activities JC, DPH.

9. Serves as a resource for laboratory personnel on quality improvement activities and education.

10. Collects and reports laboratory quality data for all CCHC laboratories at Quality Meetings.

11. Performs all duties in accordance with safety guidelines, standards, laws, rules and regulations as set forth by regulatory and governmental agencies and in accordance with established departmental and Healthcare policies and procedures.

12. Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, and volunteers.

13. Develops and maintains effective communication with assigned staff, co-workers, physicians, other hospital personnel outside organizations or others who provide or receive laboratory services.

14. Maintains confidentiality of information deemed confidential.

15. Maintains professional growth and development through approved seminar workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.

16. Maintains a thorough knowledge of departmental policies and hospital procedures as they pertain to the job, including the Fire and Disaster plans.

17. Maintains a thorough knowledge of the Union contract.

18. Perform other work-related duties and activities as assigned or requested.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Laboratory Sciences, Biology or similar field required. Masters preferred.
  • MT (ASCP) preferred.
  • 5 years of Clinical Laboratory testing experience, preferably in a hospital laboratory.
  • Outstanding communication skills, excellent leadership ability, solid understanding of laboratory compliance issues, and ability to use standard word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Experience with six sigma or other process improvement strategies.
  • Prior experience with College of American Pathologist or CLIA inspections as inspector or on inspection team preferred.
  • Ability to read analyze and interpret general laboratory periodicals,

professional journals, technical procedures and / or governmental regulations.

  • Ability to write technical laboratory reports, laboratory procedure manuals, and business correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from

groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and

statistical inference.

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages,

ratios and proportions to practical solutions.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid

conclusions.
