Job Summary
Working under the general supervision of the Business Operations Manager and in close coordination with the Purchasing Coordinator, purchase goods and services for a large and complex academic and research unit.
Process department accounts payable and troubleshoot expense reports for graduate students and faculty. This position operates with a high degree of organization and attention to detail while offering excellent customer service.

Minimum Qualifications

- Experience performing purchasing related tasks to include but not limited to placing orders, researching product specifications, obtaining and providing cost comparison information, interpreting terms and conditions of contracts, determining total costs including tax and shipping.
- Experience processing complex purchasing transactions using web-based systems.
- Experience providing excellent customer service and assistance.
- Organizational skills to work independently to achieve timely progress on multiple detail-oriented projects.
- Interpersonal and communication skills to clearly and effectively interact with people of varying ages and cultural backgrounds, in person and in writing;
ability to clarify situations and resolve problems; ability to exercise tact and diplomacy, especially to resolve disagreements and conflicts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with chemical procurement.
- Experience using University systems (AggieExpense, PrePurchasing, AggieEnterprise purchasing, etc.).
- Knowledge and experience with UC purchasing principles and practices
- Knowledge of industry suppliers and products, equipment and services.

The Chemistry Department is a large and complex academic and research department located in the College of Letters and Science.
The department has state and extramural funds with expenditures of approximately $33M annually including $13M in organized research.
There are 28 staff members, 41 senate faculty, 4 continuing lecturers, many Federation appointees, Emeritus Faculty, Postdocs, Pre-Six Lecturers, 250 graduate students and 700 undergraduate majors.
