Job Description
Basic Purpose
Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities involving fire protection, firefighting, and rescue duties. This includes training, responding to calls for service (fire, rescue, medical, hazardous materials, etc.
inspections, and service of extinguishers along with other activities as assigned by Fire and Emergency Services staff.
Compensation : $44,078.04
Typical Functions
- Functions as part of a fire company in response to all different kinds of requests for service in dealing with naural and man-made emergency and non-emergency situations.
- Fire training in accordance with AFI 32-2001, DoD Instruction 6055.06, DoD Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) program. Ensure compliance with agency’s proficiency training program.
- Achieve certification by participating in provided training programs and instruction. Training to achieve FES certfication is a personal responsibility.
- Participates in emergency response and on-scene activities.
- Ensure training with all equipment and props meet NFPA standards including NFPA 1403 before being used to train DoD military or civilian firefighters.
- Training must maintain proficiency in various structural scenarios, live fire training will be conducted IAW NFPA 1403.
Must participate in training for Class A combustibles will use acceptable Class A materials which are pine excelsior, wooden pallets, straw, hay, and other ordinary combustibles.
Pressure treated wood, rubber, plastic, and straw or hay treated with pesticides or harmful chemicals will not be used.
- Responsible for maintaining personal training records.
- Responsible for knowing department rules, regulations and guidelines
- Other duties as assigned by the Fire Chief or Shift Commander.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies
This is an entry level position and training will be provided. Mental and Physical fitness are required for successful training to be achieved.
Special Requirements
Licenses / Certificates required : IFSAC or Pro-Board Firefighter I&II, IFSAC Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations certificate, NIMS ICS 100,200,700 & 800, Flammable Liquids and Gas Certificate, Medical Responder (EMR) Certification, Vehicle Extrication, Swift water Operations, Boat Operations, Emergency Vehicle Operations Certificate, S-130 and S-190 NWCG Red Card Certificate, Rope Operations Level Certificate.
Or Equivalent Fire Service and Emergency Service Experience. (All training must be completed within the first year)
Physical Requirements :
- Must be able to drag 175lb mannequin at least 50 feet.
- Must be able to work in elevated, confined, and hazardous environments.
- Must be able to function in Personal Protective Equipment for extended periods of time at heavy workloads.
- Must participate in physical fitness program.
- Must be able to function as part of a crew within extreme temperature environments for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to pass Red card wildland cert. with moderate pack test minimum.

- T3 secret security clearance (eligibility for national security positions shall be granted only to persons who are U.S. citizens)
- Contingent on a favorable medical exam (NFPA 1582 Firefighter physical)
- Available to work if called in due to an emergency
- Considered essential personnel (work during inclement weather)
- Must maintain a valid driver’s license
- Shift work or be in an approved leave status for 212 hours within 28 consecutive days.
