Duties, Responsibilities & Other

Duties

We are hiring entry level environmental scientists to conduct monitoring and maintenance activities at multiple ecological restoration sites throughout Indiana.

Two technicians will be hired to work from our Indianapolis, IN office. Travel throughout the state and into Wisconsin with multiple overnights is required for these positions.

Job duties include vegetation monitoring, stream and wetland survey and monitoring, invasive species control, data collection and report writing, and vegetation installation.

These are full-time, seasonal positions with anticipated 40+ hours / week beginning approximately April 1st and ending October 31st.

Experience

0-2 years professional experience related to ecological restoration, natural resources, or invasive species control.

Skills

  • Knowledge of ecological restoration techniques and processes, data collection and analyses.
  • Knowledge of invasive species treatment techniques (herbicide and manual removal) and ability to identify Midwest native and invasive plant species.
  • Strong navigational skills to both find the restoration sites and navigate within the sites is ideal.
  • A rigorous work ethic, organizational ability, constant communication and time management skills are required for this position.
  • The ability to learn new field skills quickly will be critical in this position.
  • The ideal candidate will be able to think for themselves, maintain attention to detail, and work with minimal guidance at times.

Degrees / License

  • BS in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Wildlife and Fisheries Management, or equivalent.
  • Current herbicide applicator license or Registered Technician (RT) status or ability to obtain RT from the Indiana Office of State Chemist.
  • FAA Section 107 drone operator licensure is a plus.

Other

  • Ability to work in a team environment, with individuals in other geographies is a prerequisite of this opportunity.
  • Overnight travel (typically Monday through Thursday) will be required.
  • Must be able to lift weights up to 50lbs and wear personal protective equipment.
  • These are field based positions and successful applicants will be exposed to various weather conditions, precipitation events, biting / stinging insects, and other outdoor hazards.
  • Ability to traverse terrain off-trail, on foot in muddy and brushy conditions
  • Current driver’s license.
  • Pre-employment drug testing is required as a condition of employment. Background and motor vehicle checks may be required based upon position.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum of 0 -2 years of professional experience. Appropriate professional certification preferred.

Performance Expectations

  • Complete Annual Individual Training Program
  • Train adequate backup personnel to support your role in your absence
  • Attend meetings with clients as required
  • Comply with all KCI policies and procedures
  • Ensure projects fulfill ISO compliance requirements
  • Complete other duties as required / assigned
  • Assist with preparation of proposals and qualifications in repsonse to RFPs and RFQs
  • Achieve or exceed budgeted individual utilization target(85% typical)
  • Attend bi-weekly(or more frequently as necessary) meetings with project team on all projects / tasks
  • Complete all tasks on time and within budget while fully meeting the scope
  • Operate within specified (corporate or project) budget parameters
  • Assess and document potential project impacts
  • Collect required field data using proper protocols and techniques
  • Lead field surveys
  • Lead the development of and assemble organized, clear, and cohesive technical reports
  • Prepare avoidance or minimization recommendations
  • Prepare mitigation strategy and plan as required
  • Process field data for inclusion in reports and deliverables
  • Review and interpret lab results
