Job Description and Duties

This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by directing the activities of a regional X-Ray Machine Inspection, Compliance and Enforcement program to ensure that qualified individuals are using X-ray machines in a safe and appropriate manner.

The Senior Health Physicist (Sr. HP) is the first supervisory level within the Health Physicist series. The incumbent oversees the X-ray Machine Inspection Program by planning and coordinating inspection activities, and leading its technical and administrative quality control and assurance efforts.

Additionally, the Sr. HP offers high-level consultation to management on both the technical and administrative facets of the program to elevate operational efficiency.

The Sr. HP develops the unit’s workplans, assesses the unit’s training needs and develops staff skills, and solves complex technical problems;

builds collaborative relationships with stakeholders, and fosters an inclusive work environment. The Sr. HP will create an open and transparent environment to allow for team communication and promote customer service and accountability.

Overnight or extended travel may be required in support of these duties.

The Sr. HP works under the general direction of the Supervising Health Physicist (Sup. HP) of the Inspection, Compliance, and Enforcement Section, Radiation Machines.
