Job Description

The Senior Software Engineer is responsible for all aspects of software product development acting as an individual contributor, or where applicable, as a Core Team Member.

In this dynamic role, the Senior Software Engineer will have the ability to work on a variety of products, supporting multiple Business Units, including successful product launches to the market.

The Senior Software Engineer will lead or contribute to efforts to define user and product requirements , collaborate with project managers and other Core Team Members on project execution strategy, timelines and costs, lead product design and prototyping efforts, execute product feasibility testing, technical risk reduction planning, design verification and validation testing strategy and testing efforts, lead or contribute to design analysis testing, and ultimately the generation of all design controls documentation in collaboration with external and / or internal development and manufacturing / quality partners.

The Senior Software Engineer is expected to drive design / concept trade-off decisions while taking costs, technical risk, reliability and User Needs into consideration.

She / He must fully understand medical device design control requirements, have experience leading technical development efforts, and be effective at communicating advancements and issues to all levels of the organization.

NOTE : The role of Senior Engineers within Olympus’s career ladder is between Engineer II and Staff Eng.

Job Duties

  • Participate in the development and release of new medical device products.
  • Create, maintain and implement source code that comprises the application or program for Company software
  • Design and implement unit test suites and / or automated UI testing.
  • Review User and Product requirements and where applicable author software requirements.
  • Review and where applicable author software test protocols.
  • Participate in design reviews and software system architecture.
  • Adhere to development timelines.
  • Resolve design problems with urgency, creativity and collaboration.
  • Supports engineering leadership as required.
  • Additional duties as required.

Job Qualifications

Required :

  • BS degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics or related field (Graduate degree in related field preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional software development experience or
  • Minimum of 4 years of professional software development experience with MS in related field or
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience PhD Degree in related field
  • Other Considerations (travel / hours availability, etc.) :
  • Travel to other Company facilities, hospitals, and animal lab settings may be required.
  • Ability to work overtime is required.
  • Other projects and duties as necessary and assigned.

Preferred :

  • Proficient in C, C++ programming languages and Git.
  • Experience working with Linux based systems, secure real time operating systems (QNX, VxWorks), DevOps tools (Azure DevOps, Atlassian bitbucket and bamboo), static code analysis tools, and Qt, etc.
  • Experience collecting and translating software requirements into software design and implementation.
  • Capable of identifying design / performance issues or concerns early in a program and proactively implementing contingency plans and / or planning for mitigations.
  • 2D / 3D imaging and algorithm development (segmentation, volume rendering, linear algebra, etc.).
  • Utilization of ML Models.
  • Working knowledge of, and experience in applying / developing products in compliance with FDA and international requirements, including IEC62304.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows Office applications including MS Outlook, MS PowerPoint, MS Project, Visio, etc..
  • Experience analyzing and mitigating cybersecurity vulnerabilities
  • Previous experience working in a medical device company or life science field preferred not required.

The anticipated base pay range for this full-time position working at this location is $95,665.00 - $129,148.00 / year, plus potential for annual bonus (subject to plan eligibility and other requirements).
