About the Job
Job Responsibilities :
65% Donor Tissue Distribution :
- Responsible for day-to-day distribution of ocular tissue for transplant.
- Keep track of available transplant corneas and pending transplant corneas, related to surgery schedule.
- Allocate available corneas to meet processing and surgeon needs and preferences.
- Work with donor coordination and laboratory staff communicating potential changes throughout the workday
- Determine when available corneas and scheduled surgeries do not match and determine best options including deciding when to import transplant tissue from other eye banks.
- Coordinate tissue receipt and distribution with other eye banks.
- Coordinate tissue receipt and distribution with surgery centers.
- Document tissue requests received via Surgeon Portal, email, fax or phone in iTransplant.
- Document tissue distribution in a manner that invoices can be generated from the information provided.
- Approve tissue distributed for transplant to be invoiced.
- Train Donor Coordinators as back-up distribution coordinators.
20% Document Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Transplant Distribution :
- Maintain accurate and complete record of transplant distribution in iTransplant.
- Maintain criteria specified by each surgeon customer in collaboration with Distribution Manager.
- Maintain shipping resources and logistical preferences for each surgery location in collaboration with Distribution Manager.
- Maintain additional records required for reporting on tissues distributed to another eye bank or via another entity.
- Respond to requests, in a timely manner, for information from eye banks that LGS received transplant tissue from.
- Together with Distribution Manager, review, develop and implement SOPs for transplant tissue to ensure operational effectiveness, facilitate efficient processing and maximize use of all donor tissue.
5% Shipping and Receiving Transplant Suitable Corneas :
- Properly package, ship and document distribution of donor tissue following all related policies.
- Properly receive imported transplant tissue following all related policies.
- Be available to package tissue at off hours when necessary.
10% Other :
Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
General Responsibilities :
- Practice safe work habits at all times (e.g. Universal Precautions, OSHA guidelines).
- Routinely review and adhere to all Lions Gift of Sight and University of Minnesota policies and procedures.
- Practice effective, respectful, professional and proactive communication.
- Attend and participate in staff, technical and other meetings as required.
- Arrive or login and work during scheduled hours.
- Routinely cover on call shifts.
- Participate in strategic plan initiatives as assigned.
Expected Starting Salary Range : $27.34 to $29.36hr depending on qualifications and experience.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications :
- BA / BS in a scientific discipline, or a combination of related education and work experience to equal at least four (4) years.
- Ability to work well within the laboratory group and with collaborators.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated customer service skills in a high volume or high-risk setting.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and meet utilization requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a high stress environment.
- Ability to work overtime.
Preferred Qualifications :
Experience in an eye bank setting.
