The Supervisor-Veterinary Services directly supervise the operations and staff of the ARC Research Services Unit of the Animal Resource Center.
The areas of responsibilities will include delegation of technical requests, surgical areas, quarantine, special projects and implementation and utilization of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Provide leadership and support services for the ARC Research Services and Veterinary Services units of the ARC. Provide advanced rodent breeding colony management and training according to specific research needs.
Assist management by providing hands-on training and proficiency evaluation of technicians relative to technical skills and SOP content.

Job Responsibilities :
- Plan, coordinate, direct, and oversee daily operations of vet / research services staff to meet department and customer requirements.
- Define and monitor operating plans for area, including workflow, resources, and personnel scheduling.
- Guide performance of vet / research services (e.g., breeding colony management) in terms of quality, timelines, and technical acumen.
- Assist in development of SOPs and process guidelines in own area.
- Identify, propose, and implement process improvements and new approaches / techniques within own area.
- Track and report metrics for own area to animal research leadership teams.
- Assist in planning and monitoring of overall team budgets.
- Plan and deliver ongoing training and skill-building programs for all technicians / personnel in vet / research services.
- Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
Minimum Education and / or Training :
- High School Diploma / GED required.
- Associate's Degree preferred.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
Minimum Experience :
- Minimum Requirement : 8+ years of experience in a professional animal care facility (e.g. zoo, veterinary clinic, laboratory animal facility) with High school diploma / GED.
- Experience Exception : 6+ years with Associate's degree.
- Experience Exception : 4+ years with Bachelor's degree.
- Significant technical experience within own area (e.g. animal handling and restraint; animal health monitoring; operation and sanitization / sterilization of equipment; sample collection).
- Experience managing / guiding ARC software systems and databases for maintenance / review / analysis of records / data / reports.
- Experience working with / implementing regulations and policies regarding animal research (e.g. ILAR Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, USDA Animal Welfare Act and Regulations).
- Demonstrated success managing teams / resources / timelines.
- Experience providing broader mentorship within and across teams.
- Proven performance in earlier role / comparable role.
