Reporting directly to the Director of Clinical Operations, Patient Access and Supportive Care, the Patient Navigation Program Supervisor is responsible for the management and supervision of patient navigation program staff in facilitating the delivery of an excellent experience for patients and caregivers obtaining oncology care.

The incumbent will ensure the development and maintenance of positive program relationships with physician leaders, providers, care team members and all UC San Diego Health staff to facilitate and support patients throughout their cancer journey.

The Patient Navigation Program Supervisor will oversee navigator responsibilities, evaluations, schedules, coverage, onboarding, training, recruitment and retention.

The supervisor will provide oversight for patient navigators initiating contact with patients and families and establishing ongoing, proactive communication at each new phase of treatment.

The position will be responsible for ensuring a culturally competent patient navigation program including training and professional development, workflow definition and enhancement, and ongoing program refinement and engagement of trained navigators.

The supervisor will develop metrics for program assessment and evaluation as well as oversee completion and perform analyses on program encounter data.

In partnership with Cancer Services leaders, the Patient Navigation Program Supervisor will identify opportunities for programmatic expansion and relationships to boost the program’s ability to reach more oncology patients throughout the greater San Diego region.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Nine (9) years of related healthcare experience, education / training, OR a Bachelor’s degree in related area plus five (5) years of related experience / training in a healthcare environment.

Experience and proven success in supervisory, organizational, and customer service skills to effectively supervise and prioritize the activities of subordinate staff.

Experience and demonstrated success in project management.

Ability to build strong relationships with physicians, clinical team members, community organizations, volunteers, colleagues and the health care community.

Strong, demonstrated administration and organization skills and abilities; superior attention to detail and strong time management skills;

ability to plan for human and physical resource needs and to revise plans in response to changing program priorities or in light of emerging data.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to train and mentor subordinates, convey complex administrative, clinic, and technical information in a clear and concise manner, and prepare and present various reports, documentation, analyses, and project proposals.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in a hospital, ambulatory or oncology setting.

Demonstrated experience developing or managing programs.

Lean Six Sigma training.

Working knowledge of electronic medical records systems.

Experience supporting patients and caregivers with navigation needs in a healthcare or community organization setting.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Position may also have responsibility for Patient Resource Center(s) and volunteer coordination.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range : $67,200 - $119,600 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent : $32.18 - $57.28

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.

The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position.

The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
