Instrument and Calibration Technician
The Instrument and Calibration Technician is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining a variety of electrical, electronic, and pneumatic instrumentation and control systems used in industrial settings.
This role should be familiar with the National Electric Code and other relevant industry standards to ensure accurate and safe work is completed.
The Instrument Technician reports to the Maintenance Manager and completes essential duties for the Maintenance department.
The Instrument Technician is responsible for specifying, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing control equipment associated with the processing of petroleum.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following :
Installs, maintains, and repairs instrumentation and control systems, including sensors,
transmitters, controllers, and valves.
Troubleshoots and diagnoses problems with instrumentation and control systems using a variety
of tools and techniques, including digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, and signal generators.
Performs preventative maintenance on instrumentation and control systems to ensure optimal
performance and minimize downtime.
Calibrates and tests instrumentation and control systems to ensure accurate readings and
proper operation.
Reads and interprets electrical and electronic schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical
manuals.
Communicates with other technicians, engineers, and supervisors to coordinate work and
resolve issues.
Adheres to safety protocols and OSHA regulations when working with electrical and electronic
equipment.
Repairs, maintains, calibrates, adjusts, and installs industrial measuring and controlling
instrumentation.
- Maintains safety fail safe devices in a control system.
- Maintains distributed control systems (DCSs) to monitor process variables.
- Exercises supervision over contracted personnel when assistance is needed.
Other Functions :
- Troubleshoots control systems including fired equipment.
- Complies with safe work practices, policies, and processes at all times.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
- 5 years of experience in refinery or related field.
