Available Shifts / Schedule :

  • Full-time : 6AM-2PM
  • Part-time : 6AM-2PM
  • Full-time : 2PM-10PM
  • Part-time : 2PM-10PM

Certified Medication Technician - Position Summary :

Administer oral and topical medications to residents. This individual must perform these tasks as ordered by a physician, under the supervision of a licensed nurse, and in accordance with state and federal rules and regulations.

Also, must perform routine daily tasks required in maintaining the health, comfort and well-being of the residents.

Certified Medication Technician - Essential Responsibilities :

  • Administers medications as ordered by a physician under the supervision of a licensed nurse, in accordance with any state and federal regulations and consistent with community policy.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of "five rights" of medication administration. Administers and records all medication given to residents' based upon their specific chart.
  • May take and record vital signs of residents as assigned or as may be required by certain medications.
  • Certified Medication Technician CMT records the administration of medications and / or treatments appropriately, utilizing the computer system to enter and reference resident information as needed.
  • Observes and reports any reactions and / or side effects of medications to a licensed nurse immediately.
  • Administers PRN medications in accordance with state and federal regulations and consistent with facility policy.
  • Ensure antiseptic techniques and good hand washing practices for infection control, as well as utilizing universal precautions are in place and practiced.
  • Certified Medication Technician CMT reports and when appropriate, records any changes observed in condition or behavior of residents and unusual incidents.
  • Submit incident / accident reports to supervisor or Administrator within twenty-four (24) hours after their occurrence.
  • Communicates with medical staff, nursing service and other department supervisors.
  • Certified Medication Technician CMT supervises care staff in absence of nurses.
  • Maintains, cleans and organizes the Medication Room.
  • Maintains a liaison with other department supervisors to adequately plan for resident activities.
  • Attends all required training, in-service and staff meetings
  • May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.
  • May be subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc, including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.
  • Maintain resident confidentiality, staff confidentiality; treat staff and residents with kindness, dignity and respect.
  • Comply with Resident's Rights rules.

Certified Medication Technician - Requirements :

  • A High School Diploma or General Education Degree; or one to three months related experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certified Medication Aide certification required.
