Job Summary
The faculty of the Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at the University of South Carolina, Columbia campus, invites applications for a , non-tenure track position at the rank of Instructor to begin August 16, .
The position is a 9-month appointment with a teaching load of 8 courses for the academic year. This is an annual appointment that may be renewed contingent upon Deans approval, satisfactory performance, departmental needs, and the availability of funding.
The successful candidate will be assigned a teaching load of four courses each semester (eight per academic year). Courses will include language teaching at all levels and courses in Deaf culture.
The successful candidate will maintain an excellent record of teaching, while actively engaging in various instructional responsibilities.
Required Education and Experience Candidates must have a Masters degree, in hand by August 15, , in appropriate field, such as Deaf Education, Deaf Studies, American Sign Language, Special Education (with appropriate emphasis on Deaf education), Communication (with appropriate emphasis on Deaf culture), Bicultural or Bilingual Education (with appropriate emphasis on Deaf education);
evidence of two years of successful ASL teaching at the college level; fluency in ASL and English; and must stay updated on current trends and best practices in sign language education.
Preferred Qualifications Possess, or be willing to obtain within one-year, Provisional Level Certification from the American Sign Language Teachers Association;
ability to effectively use technology in the classroom; and strong knowledge of Deaf culture and sensitivity to the needs of the Deaf community.
